The Geosciences Supervisor supervises a team of Geosciences professionals and technologists. Provides technical guidance for employees, and teams with geology, drilling, reservoir, operations and land to enhance Devon's approach to a resource. Brings creativity and leadership to the team.EDUCATION
  • Degree in Geology or related science; MS preferred
EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of 5 years of recent industry experience as a working geologist or geophysicist
  • Demonstrated interdisciplinary skills (geology and geophysics)
  • Recent experience in active resource plays
  • Leadership experience preferred, particularly in a formal supervisory role.
  • Demonstrated strong written and oral communication and presentation skills with a focus on customer service
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide technical oversight for the Geoscience staff, including reviewing and prioritizing work, organizing meetings, sharing results, and preparation of presentations representing team's work and impact
  • Take responsibility and guides the team in business performance, including tracking goals and budget
  • Manage team projects
  • Lead technical, strategic innovation, continuous improvement, and knowledge management for the team
  • Provide performance management for employees, including staff development and evaluation, and administrative tasks such as expense reports and timesheet approvals
  • Demonstrate leadership through strategic planning, goal-setting, building effective relationships, energizing the team, delivering results, and modeling integrity
  • Demonstrate management through leading team meetings, delegation, and keeping the team informed.
  • Assist in communication with the broader Devon Leadership team on Geosciences questions and developments
  • Communicate activities that affect operations, and assist in communicating the goals and priorities of the department
  • Monitor metrics which are relevant to the Business Unit and Geosciences and illustrate relevance and value add from the Geosciences team
  • Create the working environment that allows employees and the team to achieve full potential
  • Demonstrate leadership through strategic planning, goal setting, building effective relationships, energizing the team, delivering results, and modeling integrity
  • Lead team meetings, delegation, and keep the team informed
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Oil and Gas Industry Experience required
  • Practice safe work habits at all times • Demonstrate commitment to Devon Attributes
  • Strong prospecting skills with a demonstrated ability to evaluate opportunities and identify/address key risk elements
  • Technical background in Unconventional Resource Plays is desired
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong problem solving and creative thinking skills
  • Ability to receive and respond to calls off-hours, travel to field sites, and occasionally travel out of area
