Job Description:Sun River Health provides the highest quality of comprehensive primary, preventative and behavioral health services to all who seek it, regardless of insurance status and ability to pay, especially for the underserved and vulnerable. Sun River Health is a Federally Qualified, Non-Profit Health Center serving communities in Suffolk, Rockland, Orange, Dutchess, Ulster, Sullivan, Columbia and Westchester County.Sun River Health is currently seeking a full-time Health Educator to support our Peekskill site. *This is a grant funded position*Responsibilities:The Health Educator will deliver evidenced-based programming with fidelity to youth in a variety of settings including afterschool programs and onsite and community-based organizations during times youth are not in school. The Health Educator will additionally engage program participants in activities designed to provide career exploration activities and arrange for trips to local cultural events.The Health Educator will provide parent education workshops with the goal of improving parent-child communication to support the development of positive health behaviors among youth including avoiding sexual activityCompleting orientation and trainings prior to delivering evidence-based programmingDelivering evidence-based programming with fidelity to youth and parents in a variety of community-based settingsProviding youth development programming including career exploration and service-learning activitiesCoordinate and engage program participants in annual local cultural eventsConducting community outreach and educationServe as an active member of community coalitions; participate in local health fairs and community eventsMaintain program participant records and submit required data for monthly, quarterly, and annual education reportsRepresent Sun River Health and the youth health education program at local community events and coalitionsQualifications:Strong interpersonal skills: must be a team player who works cooperatively and effectively with other program staff, schools and community-based partners that serve youth and familiesAbility to facilitate discussion/teach classes to youth and parents in a variety of settings on various health topics including reproductive anatomy, contraceptive methods, STDs, and HIV/AIDS, and sexual risk avoidanceRespects differences of race, ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, ability, and socio-economic circumstance; understands and applies principles of cultural competenceMust be able to handle multiple assignments and take initiative to plan and complete projects effectivelyExperience working with youth and demonstrated ability to be inclusive and non-stigmatizing in their role.Strong presentation and organizational skillsMust be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekendsEducation Minimum: Bachelor's degree in health education or health related fieldJob Type: Full-timePay: $21.50 - $24.50 per hourResponsibilities:Relation to Mission
