Starting Salary Depending on Experience and QualificationsUnder general supervision, inspects new development water infrastructure construction as well as the construction of the utility's distribution and production facilities such as water mains, well equipping, booster stations and reservoirs.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Answers questions and resolves complex construction problems on-site.
  • Conducts pre-construction meetings with contractors.
  • Coordinates with operations personnel for integrating new project into existing system.
  • Coordinates with other Department staff on construction progress and maintains project documentation.
  • Coordinates with other departments and outside agencies.
  • Ensures construction projects do not create hazards or damage to private or public property.
  • Inspects new development water infrastructure construction.
  • Inspects the construction of the utility's distribution and production facilities.
  • Inspects to ensure construction of water projects comply with construction drawings, standards and specifications.
  • Oversees water pressure, compaction and bacteria tests.
  • Prepares and maintains project notes on daily work activities.
  • Prepares project as-built drawings.
  • Provides assistance to the project managers and operations personnel.
  • Reads and interprets plans and project specifications.
  • Reviews and approves project shop drawing submittals.
  • Reviews quantity calculations for cost estimates of new development and capital improvement plans.
  • Communicates effectively under pressure and maintains a professional and assertive attitude with contractors, engineers and owners.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written communication.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines and follow up on work assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of applicable Town, state and federal statutes, ordinances, codes, rules and regulations inspection of design and construction projects.
  • Knowledge of blueprints, maps and plats survey documentation.
  • Knowledge of construction inspection principles and techniques.
  • Knowledge of Town and Department policies and procedures.
  • Skill in calculating engineering computations and resolving problems related to construction projects, contractor compliance and project design.
  • Skill in organizing and coordinating large construction projects.
  • Skill in reading, interpreting and analyzing construction plans, blueprints, manuals and specifications.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • A High School diploma or GED.
  • Two (2) years' experience in construction and/or inspection of water infrastructure.
  • Must possess a valid Class D Arizona driver license upon the first day of employment.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • An Associate degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Tucson Water and Oro Valley Standard Details and Specifications for Waterworks is preferred.
  • A Water Distribution Grade 1 operator's license in the State of Arizona is preferred.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor environment.
  • Regular, daily attendance is an essential function for this position.
