Position Description:
  • Employees in this position perform a variety of tasks related to the care, treatment, and rehabilitation of program clients. These employees participate in the planning, preparation, and delivery of in-service training as directed by supervisory personnel. Employees in this position are aware of available community resources, they make appropriate referrals to same, and they function as a member of a treatment team.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assesses clients referred for substance abuse and mental health evaluations and makes appropriate treatment recommendations regarding same.
  • Performs case management functions such as maintaining case records and coordinating additional services as necessary.
  • Acts as a group leader/facilitator during group counseling sessions.
  • Provides individual counseling to program clients.
  • Provides family counseling to program clients.
  • Provides supervision and coordination of the work of other staff members as delegated by the Clinical Supervisor/Program Supervisor.
  • Acts as a resource for other staff members with regard to appropriate treatment modalities, methods, and techniques to be utilized with program clients.
  • As directed, represents the Agency in matters of petition for involuntary treatment and consults with other professionals regarding addictions and mental health treatment and intervention.
  • It is understood that the employee will also perform other reasonable and related duties as requested by the immediate supervisor or administrative personnel.
Minimum Training and Experience:
  • Requires a master's degree in field related to Human Services, which include but not limited to: Social Work; Clinical Psychology; Counseling; Rehabilitative Counseling; Counseling Education; Education; Criminal Justice; or Ministry from an accredited college or university and at least one (1) year full-time experience in a mental health and/or addictions treatment setting.
  • A certification as an Addictions Professional (CAP) by the Certification Board for Addiction Professionals of Florida is preferred.
  • Requires extensive knowledge of all aspects of addictions and/or mental health treatment and rehabilitation including familiarity with various models of treatment, understanding of various therapeutic techniques and approaches, and the ability to identify and utilize the most effective form of treatment with each client.
  • Requires a strong knowledge base regarding the causes, symptoms, and progression of substance abuse and/or mental health problems.
