Security SupervisorFinance & AdministrationTsaile CampusDuty Schedule:VARIESSummary/Objective of Position:Under direction, plans, directs, supervise the operations and activities of law enforcement staff and Security personnel. The Security Supervisor also performs police duties including patrol, traffic enforcement, crime prevention, criminal investigation, and community relations; will direct employee performance and assist with organizational development process, will serve as a positive role model within the department. The Security Supervisor shall be responsible for the direction and control of the shift Security officers and dispatchers, review shift reports and activities, submit data to the immediate supervisor on types of training and equipment needed and insure adequate and appropriate motor and foot patrols of the campus.
2. The Security Supervisor will insure that all arrest matters are handled correctly and within the guidelines of the Navajo Nation Police Department.
3. Review incident reports, required forms, summons, records and related documents prepared by subordinates to ensure accuracy and timely completion.
4. Coordinate police activities with local and tribal law enforcement agencies as needed.
5. Participate in the selection and hiring of assigned personnel; train and evaluate assigned personnel; assist with training and orientation of new employees; provide training, guidance and counseling to assigned personnel; complete employee performance evaluations and reviews as required.
6. Insure that equipment is used properly and any damages are reported promptly, submit probation reports on all officers, dispatchers as may be required.
7. Participates in the budget development and administration; prepares and plans for departmental needs for day-to-day operations.
8. Shall carry-out the functions of a police officer, security officer, and dispatcher as may be required, and adhere to the SOP of the department, directives by the administrative authorities.
9. Ensure the security of all property, equipment, machinery, tools, materials and supplies under the control of the incumbent and that they are used only for the proper business of Dine College.20%- 1. The Security Supervisor is the first Line supervisor of the department. The Security Supervisor directly supervises over all patrol and traffic functions of the department within the college premises; plans prioritize, assign, supervise and review work of commissioned officer(s) involved in traffic and field patrol.
2. The Security Supervisor will carry out all departmental goals and objectives set forth by higher administrative authorities and shall exhibit professional conduct, demeanor, speech, and attitudes that exemplify the values and behavior expected of Dine College employees.
3. Serves as first level incident commander in the event of a major emergency, establish a field command post and implement the Incident Command System.
4. Exhibit sensitivity and respect for the Navajo people, their culture and traditions.
5. Keep immediate supervisor informed, regularly and as needed, of all significant problems, progress and activities of all officers, departments, programs and personnel under incumbent's supervision.10% - 1. Safety and security - actively promotes and personally observes safety and security procedures. Attends staff and other meetings as assigned, promptly as scheduled and participates actively and positively.
2. Provides information to the college community on safety related concerns and activities.15% - 1. Comply with all provisions of the Personnel Policy Manual and with all provisions of all other duly adopted Board of Regents policies, procedures, directives and manuals. Perform additional duties as assigned, including those related to functions and activities outside normal duties and hours of work.
2. Implements the policies and procedures within the department for any misconduct and related offices committed by subordinates; makes recommendations to the DHR for review and approval.5% -1. Maintain all required licenses and certificates in current status and immediately reports to immediate supervisor in the event any required license or certificate lapses, is suspended or revoked.QUALIFICATIONSEducation & ExperienceMinimum:High School Diploma or GED certificate, Basic Police Training Academy graduate or Federal Law Enforcement Training Center graduate, college education relating to law enforcement preferred, Supervisory Training.Preferred:3-5 years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience or equivalent experience at Federal Government level GS 7 Security. Must be certified in the state of New Mexico or Arizona as a level one peace officer. Must possess management and leadership experience in a law enforcement settingKnowledge:Must have Supervisory Training
Computer Literate: Word and Excel, typing skills preferred
Knowledge of practices and methods of law enforcement, criminal investigation and identification.
Knowledge of the standards by which the quality of police services is evaluated.
Ability to enforce laws tactfully, firmly and impartially
Knowledge of Federal Emergency Management Agency and Homeland Security trainings and skills.Skills:Must have excellent communication and writing skills
Knowledge of the principles and practices of modern police administration and methods
Law enforcement related, public relations, customer service, command management skills
Operation of Police vehicle, radio, law enforcement regulation duty firearm, radar gun, Breathalyzer, first-aid equipment and other related equipment as assigned.
Skill in maintaining calm during emergencies and take instant command of situations
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationshipsAbilities:Good speaking ability
Dealing with persons and groups, firearm and non-lethal weapons
Familiar with laws of arrest, search and seizures
Analyzing situations quickly and objectively to determine the proper course of action.
Adhere to the SOP, General/Special Orders, Directives and others issued by competent authorityPhysical Requirements, Work Environment & Travel:Must be physical fit and have a satisfactory physical examination. The employee is required to perform shift work including days, evenings and nights, including weekends and holidays. Employee must occasionally lift and or move more than 50 pounds.Other Requirement(s):No prior DUI, Domestic Violence or any misdemeanor arrest and conviction
