- Coordination of all aspects of special education evaluation
- Scheduling evaluation planning meetings and leading these meetings in partnership with the School Psychologist
- Developing evaluation plans and using assessment tools to determine student eligibility for specialized education
- Conducting observations, student interviews, family interviews, teacher interviews, FBAs, transition assessments, and all other components of the evaluation in collaboration with case managers, school psychologists, and parents
- Administering, scoring, and interpreting standardized educational assessment measures according to established standards and with accuracy
- Writing evaluation reports, including summary, educational needs, and recommended supports/accommodations
- Managing timelines to ensure the evaluation is completed with information from all team members and sent home by the 30-day deadline Prior to finalizing the evaluation
- Scheduling, preparing, and leading evaluation results meetings with the special education team and parents
- Filing all paperwork related to the evaluation appropriately and uploading copies to SpedForms
- Providing mentoring to Special Services staff in learning the necessary skills for due process rules and regulations and overseeing the timelines and completion of evaluation components..
- Working with families to understand the evaluation process and their rights
- Coordinating evaluation procedures during weekly Due Process Meetings with teachers and service providers.
- Maintaining accurate and complete student records.
- Performing additional duties as determined by the Network Director of Specialized Instruction or Director of Special Education
- Making recommendations in accordance with best practice and evidence-based practice models where appropriate and adhering to model and program expectations
- Communicating, orally and in writing, in a positive, effective manner with students, staff, families, and all internal and external providers as needed
- Developing knowledge and understanding about the history, traditions, values, and family systems, as well as using appropriate methodology approaches, skills, and techniques that reflect an understanding of students' background and culture to ensure unbiased evaluations
- Adhering to district policies and procedures (e.g. confidentiality, reports of child abuse, safety precautions, etc)
- Displaying excellent work habits (e.g. meeting deadlines, maintaining an organization system, attendance and promptness at work and meetings, timeliness in completing work)
- Functioning as a strong and supportive team member who understands and embraces a multi-disciplinary team model
- Interacting with students, staff, and their families in a manner that is culturally and situationally sensitive and relationally-based
- Strong leadership skills in facilitating group processes and team building.
- Communication skills in a variety of settings and experiences.
- Ability to prepare and compile thorough comprehensive evaluation reports with strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to confidently lead meetings with 5-10 attendees
- Knowledge of learning processes, learning disorders, instructional strategies, and interventions
- Knowledge and skills in due process compliance, accountability, evaluation, and determining eligibility.
- Understanding of so federal and state special education rules and regulations regarding special education evaluation procedures
- Proficiency in the use of software related to due process (Spedforms)
- Excellent time management skills and organizational skills to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Tolerance for ambiguity, tenacity with follow-up, and creativity in the development of the individual building needs, while seeing the “larger” version of the district.
- Ability to work with parents/families as well as students, staff, and support staff in problem-solving strategies.
- Ability to engage in problem-solving and conflict resolution.
- Ability to prioritize and manage the volume of requests and responsibilities.
- Leadership in supervising program and paraprofessionals.
- Education/Certification Requirements: A current PELSB-issued MN Teaching License in Special Education (Academic Behavior Strategist preferred) or School Psychology is required for this position.
