- Lead the Metrology staff with a positive attitude and promote total involvement of all personnel in their daily duties.
- Provide programming and technical support for CMM operations.
- Support equipment/software interface with CMM’s, PC-DMIS and MeasureMind 3D.
- Provide support in the field of inspection questions and problems.
- Oversees measurement, calibration and validation tasks to support Quality, Process Engineering, Tooling Engineering and Production
- Evaluates Product Plan requirements from Engineering sketches and generates data summaries and reports.
- Works with Metrology Technician, QE and Quality Management to ensure effective development and implementation of the Product Plans.
- Monitor departmental work output (KPI’s).
- Oversees instrument calibration system.
- Monitors data using applicable software.
- Guides the team performing Gage R&R studies and ensures data files are updated and reports are generated.
- Writes measurement routines as necessary using CMM and or Vision System.
- Creates applicable work instructions and provides training as needed.
- Investigates and completes Corrective and Preventive Actions
- Identify individual and team strengths and development needs on an ongoing basis.
- Establish clear measurable goals and objectives by which to determine individual and team results (i.e. operational metrics, training documentation, attendance records, knowledge of operational roles and responsibilities, personal development goals).
- Provide ongoing coaching and counseling to team members.
- Conduct periodic personnel performance reviews.
- Support all company safety and quality programs and initiatives.
- Programming skills with PC-DMIS and MeasureMind 3D preferred or equivalent combination of education, training or experience with other CMM/Vision Software and willingness to learn.
- Experience certifying, qualifying, calibrating and/or validating metrology equipment such as calipers, micrometers and computer controlled gauging equipment.
- Knowledge of blueprints, engineering specifications, interpretations, inspection using measuring test equipment, SPC software, GD&T, and quality calibration processes required.
- Working knowledge of process control charts, process capability studies and other statistical analysis applications.
- Ability to use and train the proper use of test equipment including optical comparator, CMM, Vision System, caliper, micrometer, drop indicator, surface plate and other applicable measuring equipment.
- Ability to precisely and accurately complete documentation requirements.
- Working knowledge of computers, experience with Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to read and write English and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedures.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or combination of education and equivalent experience.
- 5+ years related experience and/or training in the metrology or inspection areas.
