Offer DescriptionThis post-doctoral fellowship in Food Engineering is part of the research project “Strengthening the Brazil nut value chain: an approach focused on the Vale do Amanhecer Farmers Cooperative (Juruena/MT)”, funded by FAPESP.The candidate must have a doctoral degree obtained no more than 7 (seven) years ago, in the country or abroad, preferably in the area of Food Engineering or related fields. It is important that the candidate has a command of the English language, as well as basic Portuguese for foreigners. As part of his or her activities, the Post-Doctoral Fellow will develop a computer algorithm for optimizing the extraction of oil from Brazil nut cake (Bertholletia excelsa) in a fixed-bed column. The algorithm will be developed in Python. Matlab software may also be used to develop it.In order to validate the code, it will be necessary to carry out some experiments to extract the oil from Brazil nut cake in a fixed bed column, using ethanol as the solvent. These experiments will be carried out under different operating conditions, varying the solvent:solid ratio and the extraction time. The raffinate and extract phases, as well as the cake, will be characterized in terms of their composition in terms of oil, ethanol, water, soluble solids and inert. The overall and component mass balances must be calculated, as well as a thorough analysis of the quality of the extracted oil.Previous knowledge of: vegetable oils and fats; mass transfer concepts; extraction processes, mainly solid-liquid and liquid-liquid; experimental planning, computer simulation of processes and programming languages (mainly Python and Matlab) are desirable requirements. The first stage of the selection process consists of analyzing the candidate's documents. The candidates must send their Curriculum Summary (in pdf), indicating their experience in the required topics and highlighting their publications in indexed scientific journals, patents and other activities related to the project area, in accordance with the FAPESP model Curriculum Summary ( ). The Curriculum Summary should be sent to the following e-mail address: .The subject of the e-mail should include the following text: "PD Fellowship - Food Engineering" and the candidate's full name. The attached file (in pdf) must be no larger than 2 MB and identified with the candidate's full name: "FULL_NAME.pdf". The candidate will be responsible for all the information submitted. The selection will be based on the Curriculum Summaries sent by the candidates containing proven experience in the required topics through scientific production in the area and potential contribution to the area of the Research Project to which this scholarship is integrated.Value of the post-doctoral scholarship: R$ 9,047.40/month, according to FAPESP's Table of Values for Scholarships in Brazil ( ). 12-month term with the possibility of renewal.RequirementsResearch Field Engineering Education Level PhD or equivalentLanguages ENGLISH Level ExcellentLanguages PORTUGUESE Level BasicResearch Field EngineeringAdditional InformationWork Location(s)Number of offers available 1 Company/Institute School of Food Engineering Country Brazil State/Province São Paulo City Campinas GeofieldWhere to apply E-mailpd.103684@gmail.comContact State/ProvinceSão Paulo CityCampinas WebsiteStreetMonteiro Lobato Street, 80 Postal Code13083-862STATUS: EXPIRED
