Teaching responsibilities will include veterinary students and equine house officers in clinics and classroom. The successful candidate will have a concurrent appointment to professional staff of the VTH and be responsible for work-up of in-hospital and ambulatory (community practice) general and advanced surgical cases. This candidate will be expected to do original and collaborative research and contribute to the scholarly activity within the department. This is a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant professor. Rank and salary are commensurate with the individuals experience and qualifications.50% The successful candidate will join a team of equine surgery faculty and contribute to the department's goals through participation in didactic and tutorial instruction in equine surgery. The successful candidate will participate in work-up of general and advanced surgical cases and provide medical and surgical care and consult and cooperate with other clinical faculty in clinical equine teaching and hospital practice, as well as support the emergency duty clinicians through provision or supervision.25% The successful candidate will actively participate in original and collaborative research endeavors to complete graduate program and continue working on independant and collaborative research.20% The successful candidate will contribute towards didactic and laboratory instruction in surgery teaching of veterinary students, veterinary house officers and technicians. Cooperate with other faculty members in training interns/residents. Contribute towards Louisiana's veterinary community and public relations for the EHSP program within the LSU SVM, by providing continuing education related to surgical conditions and research.5% The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in academic governance within the College of Veterinary Medicine, including committees and other academic endeavors as time permits. Other duties as required.Minimum Qualifications:DVM or equivalentSpecific Experience: Experience in related research/teaching/clinical. Successful completion of an American College of Veterinary Surgery (ACVS) approved residency programPreferred Qualifications:DVM with 5 years of n related research/teaching/clinical experienceSpecific Experience: Assistant Professor: Diplomat status from the ACVS.
Strong teaching abilities, advanced degrees and/or experience in team research.Special or Physical Qualifications:Essential Personnel - This position may be required to report to campus in time of emergency and/or closure per PS-18May be required to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.Physical Requirements-Required to be cable of lifting more than 50 pounds, standing or walking for prolonged periods, vision near sight, vision far sight, able to reach below the shoulder, pushing, pulling, grasping, bending, squatting, and/or twisting.Safety and Security Sensitive Job - Safety and security-sensitive positions are defined as those positions where any form of substance abuse may affect University activities through unsafe work behavior/performance or error in judgment; or where substance abuse could jeopardize the safety and well-being of employees, other personnel, or the general public, or cause significant damage to University property.
