Taylor HallPay Grade:Job Description:The Bert S Turner Department of Construction Management at Louisiana State University announces the availability of a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position to teach graduate and undergraduate courses, conduct research, provide service, and uphold the mission of the Department, College, and University; along with contributing to the advancement of the profession starting August 2024. The candidate will have a strong commitment to teaching, research and service in the Construction Engineering and/or Construction Management areas, including but not limited to other relevant areas such as: Industrial Facilities, Power Grid, Facilities Management, Digital Infrastructure, Decision Support Systems, Artificial Intelligence for Construction, Robotics, Digital Twin, Resilient Construction and Adaptive Infrastructure, Sustainability, Construction Decarbonization, Material Science, Transportation or other cutting edge construction research areas.Responsibilities:
  • Teaching and Service 50%:
  • This position will plan courses and teach as related to construction management and will include campus and online undergraduate or graduate classes.
  • Course development and refresh as needed for campus and online courses
  • Student advising, mentoring, and supervising student interns and graduate assistants
  • Participates in institutional meetings and serves on department, college and/or university committees
  • Participates in regular professional development and other activities to enhance the professional skills appropriate to higher education faculty
  • Keep regular office hours and be available to students both in person and via email
  • Maintains high standards of classroom instruction
  • Stays up to date on new information and developments in the field
  • Other duties as assigned by the Department Chair and/or College Dean
  • Research 50%:
  • Sponsored research, scholarly publications and presentations
  • Collaborate with other researchers within and outside the CM department to expand disciplinary boundaries
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. or equivalent required in Construction Management, Engineering or related discipline before start date. ABDs will be considered.
  • Knowledge of teaching, publishing research, and attracting external funding.

This growing collection of faculty and staff combines their strengths and talents to meet the teaching, research, and outreach of the Department. They are actively supported by a large construction industry base that has gifted funds for endowed chairs, professorships, scholarships, and discretionary funding. There are 1,540 students across four undergraduate degree programs (campus and online) that are studying to major, or intending to major, in construction or facilities management. In addition, we have 136 graduate students working towards a Master of Science in CM (campus and online) and 52 working towards their Doctorate in CM. The LSU CM undergraduate and master’s programs are accredited by the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE). The CM Department houses three federally funded centers: Industrial Assessment Center (IAC) and the Commercial Assessment Center funded by the US Department of Energy, and the Region 6’s University Transportation Center (Tran-SET) funded by the US Department of Transportation.
