DescriptionThe Human Health Risk Assessment group is seeking a summer intern to support the development of user-friendly Windows-based computer app for predicting dislodgeable foliar (DFR) residue values. You will have the opportunity to validate and perform statistical analyses using an already existing R-based Random Forest prediction model, created from an excel-based database with more than 500 DFR study trials. DFR is a critical parameter in the assessment of exposure to workers and members of the public who enter the fields after the application of plant protection products.Responsibilities - What You'll DoThe project will involve validating current Random Forest model and performing statistical analyses of various study parameters to enable the risk assessment group to develop strategies and approaches for read-across of data to multiple crops. The ability to bridge foliar residue data across crops and products is critical in providing more realistic human health risk assessments.Demonstrate independent and creative thinking by building-on from current R-based algorithm and developing a user-friendly computer-based app that can be used by exposure experts to predict DFR values and calculate various parametersPresent project reviews throughout the summer and a final poster before colleagues and peersWork in a safe manner and embody Corteva's safety cultureOpportunities - What You'll GetWork closely with senior scientists in an industrial settingExtensive opportunities to network across a truly global companyApply your skills to develop a solution to a real-world problem that impacts human health risk assessmentWork independently and be creativeQualificationsQualifications - What You'll BringCurrently pursuing a Bachelors, Masters, or Doctorate degree in computer science or statistics with computer programming experience; and enrolled in classes for fall of 2023.Have knowledge/experience in machine learning and/or programming languages such as C# and Microsoft SQL databaseHave technical experience with Microsoft Excel and comfortable programming in R.Be experienced/knowledgeable in Microsoft Visual Studio as programming environment.Must be able to relocate to Indianapolis, IN for the summer.Must be able to work full-time (40 hours per week) for 12 weeks during the timeframe of May to August.Community - We care about you and we care that you're comfortable.
