- Ensure product conforms to all customer required metallurgical properties.
- Write manufacturing plans for customer approval, which define required processing parameters.
- Ensure all products shipped meet the requirements of the approved manufacturing plans.
- Define forging temperatures, heat treat process and testing as required by customer specifications.
- Analyze test data and adjust processing parameters as required to ensure continuing conformance to customer requirements.
- Maintain “external” customer relationship for communication of technical issues, resolution of product issues. This includes similar contact concerning technical issues with raw material suppliers.
- Identify and report metallurgical deviations with corrective action to disposition effected product and identify the product within all necessary data/quality systems.
- Performs periodic audits of Supplier Quality Systems to assure continued supplier conformance to the quality system requirements
- Uses Statistical Process Control (SPC), Advanced Quality Process (AQP) tools and metrics, proactively identifies and implements improvements to supplier quality processes
- Determines need for and selects equipment to support the lab function
- Assist with scheduling and directing the materials lab staff
- Performs or assigns analysis of material or transformative processing defects
- Maintain quality improvement and industry standards.
- Conduct metallurgical failure analysis as needed.
- Provide materials engineering support to operations and equipment.
- BS in Material Sciences, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or other closely related discipline
- Five or more years of relevant experience in a manufacturing operation
- Experience in or with a steel mill is strongly preferred
- Must be able to read micro-structure,
- Experience with induction hardening and normalizing furnaces is preferred
- Leadership experience is preferred but not required
- Ability to collect and analyze metallurgical data
