- Control hazardous working conditions and unsafe employee activities through safety management and contracting supervisory personnel.
- Supervise and administer safety/first aid and rescue squad activities including work assignments, personnel administration, staffing, training, etc.
- Participate in developing and conducting staff and craft safety orientation training program.
- Conduct work area surveillance inspections, air sampling tests for confined space entry, property, damage and personal injury investigations.
- Document all accidents, safety violations, unsafe conditions/activities. Issue confined area entry and 'hot work' permits as required.
- Plans and implements programs to train employees in work site safety practices
- Accompany safety, health and insurance inspections on walk through tours as required.
- Review safety related journals, catalogues, etc. to keep abreast of changes/improvements in protective safety equipment, materials and gear.
- Assist in preparing written appeals for safety violation citations.
- Perform additional assignments per the Safety Manager.
- 4 year occupational safety/health degree or equivalent combinations of training and related experience.
- 3-4 years construction/industrial safety experience or equivalent combinations training and related experience.
- OSHA30 and/or OSHA500 certification
- Advanced knowledge and ability to enforce all federal, state, local and company safety regulations required.
- Ability to recognize hazardous construction situations and recommend corrective measures.
- Ability to educate and influence others so they understand the critical importance of safety.
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
- Good computer skills.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods.
- Requires driving occasionally for up to 2-5 hours.
- Requires working in outdoor weather conditions.
- Minimum physical exertion such as walking, lifting, standing for long periods, bending, or reaching may be required.
- Requires visual ability to perform tasks: preparing and analyzing data, plans, outlines, viewing a computer, and extensive reading.
- Requires the ability to physically operate standard office equipment i.e., laptop, phone, keyboard, mouse, etc.
