About Us:At the forefront of medical discovery as it relates to understanding the causes of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer and dementia, is a campus of Louisiana State University and conducts basic, clinical and population research. The fellow will have the opportunity to compete for intramural and extramural funding, with the potential to extend the fellowship. In addition to their own research projects, the fellow will collaborate on other ongoing projects in the laboratory.The area of focus will be crafted based on the fellow’s interest and can utilize data being collected from the following ongoing or recently completed studies:DOSE, a PCORI-funded pragmatic clinical trial comparing the reduced-intensity behavioral interventions (i.e. 13-22 hours) to the current 26-hour standard recommended for childhood obesity treatment in children with obesity from rural and minority populations.TEAM UP, a large PCORI-funded pragmatic clinical trial comparing enhanced standard of care vs. family-based behavioral treatment program delivered in primary care clinical settings for children with obesity.GamerFit, technology-mediated physical activity promotion interventions for adolescents using exergames, apps, and telehealth.SUNRISE and TIGER Kids, observational epidemiological studies on 24-hour movement patterns in children and adolescents, motor skills, ecological momentary assessment, global positioning system tracking, and imaging for body composition.With Dr. Staiano’s mentorship, the postdoctoral fellow will select secondary mentors among the faculty of Pennington Biomedical and will create an Individual Development Plan tailored to their career goals and strengthening research skills.
