VACANCY: The Valley View Public School District is seeking an individual to fill a full-time 10 Month Custodial position at Beverly Skoff Elementary School, for the 2024/2025 school year.JOB SUMMARY: The 10-month custodian reports to the Building Maintenance Repair Person, Assistant Principal and Director of Buildings, Operations and Maintenance. Responsible for the performance of multiple tasks associated with general housekeeping, cleaning and maintenance repairs both inside and outside.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Performs general housekeeping and cleaning duties such as:
  • Keeps the building and premises, including sidewalks and play areas (when time and weather permit) neat and clean at all times
  • Shovels, plows and/or salts walks and steps as appropriate
  • Checks daily to insure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy
  • Sweeps classrooms daily and dusts furniture
  • Cleans corridors after school each day and/or during the days when their conditions requires it
  • Scrubs, hoses down and disinfects toilet floor daily and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily
  • Washes all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice each year and more frequently if necessary
  • Keeps grounds free from rubbish when time and weather permit
  • Keeps all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation
  • Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed
  • Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish and waste
  • Locks gates or doors and close off certain areas when building is being used by community groups
  • Cleans gang toilets as directed
  • Discusses and reports problems and building needs with appropriate supervisor.
  • Performs cleaning of typical classrooms as follows:
  • Empties pencil sharpener and clean area around the same
  • Empties waste paper baskets, if needed wash them
  • Removes gum or crayon from floor
  • Dust mops all hard floors and vacuum carpet
  • Dusts all flat surfaces and ledges in classrooms and corridor twice a week
  • Straightens furniture
  • Responsible to ensure that all windows and doors are locked
  • Cleans blackboards, whiteboards, chalk rails and all erasers
  • Moves wardrobes and cleans under at least twice a week
  • Moves and cleans under all tables
  • Watches for and removes all cobwebs in classrooms and corridors
  • Responsible to ensure that all lights are out, unless told to leave key area lights on
  • Changes burned out light bulbs in assigned area
  • Reports all damage, marks, breakages to your supervisor
  • Spot mops area as needed
  • Refills paper towel cabinets
  • Checks and fills soap dispenser and other pertinent bathroom supplies for classrooms which contain a bathroom
  • Uses only cleaning materials furnished by the school district
  • When necessary, other specific duties may be assigned that are in line with this job classification.
  • These duties are not intended to restrict the use of good judgment concerning normal building or emergency matters, but rather to define with as much latitude as possible the general responsibilities of this position
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others, take direction from appropriate supervisors.
  • Ability to identify and report problems and building needs to the appropriate supervisors.
  • Ability to learn and perform general housekeeping tasks and repairs.
  • Familiar and willing to perform the quantity and quality of work expected in a safety conscious manner.
  • Serve as a role model for all students and perform their duties to create an environment that is conducive to providing students an enhanced and engaged learning opportunity.
  • Must be in good health and present a negative TB test prior to employment start date.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Work is performed inside and outside; with the outside environment including exposure to inclement weather, heat and humidity. Must have the ability to walk, sit, bend and stand on feet for the majority of the shift. Must also be able to lift and move objects up to 40 pounds consistently with heavier weight necessary at times.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary is in accordance with the Supportive Staff salary schedule.
