- Provides patient care and technological expertise during endoscopic procedures, as delegated and under the direction of physicians and other licensed department staff.
- Prepares the procedure area with all diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy supplies and equipment.
- Assesses the condition of all equipment. Determines that the procedure area is safe and that all preparations are acceptable and ready for the team to commence patient care.
- Accurately documents patient and procedure information before and during the procedure. Completes the electronic record in a timely manner and according to protocols established by the IT Dept.
- Follows department policy relating to collection, identification and documentation of patient specimens.
- Maintains all patient information as confidential. Ensures patient privacy, respect and a professional environment for the patient.
- Assists with the transport and preparation of the patient, before and after the procedure.
- Assists with stocking and purchasing recommendations. Inspects and rotates sterile supplies monthly.
- Follows aseptic technique, separation of clean and contaminated, and infection control protocols for the proper care and handling of sterile and high-level disinfected equipment and supplies.
- Maintains daily documentation and processing records for cleaning and high-level disinfection of all endoscopes and associated equipment. Complies with industry standards and regulations for the handling, labeling and proper storage of endoscopes.
- Wears required personal protective equipment (PPE) during patient procedures and when processing endoscopes for cleaning and high-level disinfection.
- Participates in continuous improvement initiatives, including education, department meetings, hospital programs, etc.
- Recognizes the commitment that BID-Plymouth has to the LEAN Process Improvement method as the designated path toward continuous improvement and excellence in patient safety and satisfaction.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) responsibilities and knowledge
- Able to pay attention to detail, follow instructions (written and verbal), retain information and apply knowledge learned through CNA responsibilities and experience.
- Knowledge of infection control, cleaning and disinfection protocols.
- Demonstrate the ability to work independently and as an effective, valuable member of a team.
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods, lift, carry and push heavy objects, carts, supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Demonstrated understanding of and practice proper body mechanics.
- Ability to transport patients safely, without injury to self and others.
- Proven communication etiquette, excellent customer service experience and positive attitude.
- Current Certified Nursing Assistant License, Current EMT License or Graduate of accredited Medical Assistant Program required
- SGNA program completion & certification preferred, or completion within 6 months of taking position
- Central Sterilization / Processing Technician certification preferred
- BLS certification required
