Title: Career Educator and CounselorDepartment: Sarbanes CenterCampus Location: Arnold/Main CampusSalary Range: $55,782-$69,727Work Mode: This position requires regular in-person presence on campus and at alternative locations, depending on class schedule and other assigned duties.Hours Per Week: 40Work Schedule:Position Type: Full-Time Staff, ExemptPosition SummaryThe Career Educator and Counselor is responsible for embedding career work into the student experience through two primary functions within the career center:
Career Education: Responsible for educating students and the college community about career development topics, including career exploration, labor market information, job search strategies, résumé and cover letter writing, interview skills, branding, networking skills, and career readiness competencies. Facilitates career development for students through curriculum and co-curriculum activities and events, and connections with employers, the community, and other resources.
Career Counseling: Responsible for facilitating career planning and counseling services for students, including career exploration, planning, occupational and labor market information, and administration and interpretation of career assessments. This position will be assigned to a caseload of students and will work closely with other career counseling professionals.Anne Arundel Community College (AACC) is committed to enriching the educational experience it offers through the diversity of its faculty, administrators, and staff members. The college will annually review this restriction and, if appropriate, expand the list of states of employment eligibility.Job Duties and ResponsibilitiesFacilitates career development by creating content and educating students about labor market trends, job search strategies, workforce competencies, résumé and cover letter writing, branding, networking, and interviewing skills. Collaborates with faculty and staff to embed career content throughout the student experience. Conducts workshops, presentations, events, and one-on-one sessions and facilitates student connections with resources, experiences, and employers to prepare for the workforce. Collaborates with employers and educates students on how to articulate skills, competencies, and experiences to employers in written and oral communications.Provides individual and group-based career counseling and coaching related to career exploration to identify and match career and vocational choices to academic preparation and career decision-making. Administers career decision-making assessments and provides appropriate follow-up with students. Collaborates with faculty and staff to support career decision-making throughout the student experience. Conducts workshops, presentations, events, and one-on-one sessions and facilitates student connections with resources and experiences to prepare for the workforcePerforms tasks and manages all aspects of data analysis and reporting, assessment activities, marketing and outreach, risk mitigation, and addresses compliance issues related to the position, and other duties as assigned.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree or higherMinimum of two to five years of providing career services and counseling experienceKnowledge of career development theories and experience administering and interpreting career assessmentsKnowledge of and experience with career services, student development, employment trends, employer relations, marketing/outreach strategies, and familiarity with employment law.Demonstrated skills in program and event planning, creating educational content, marketing, presenting/educating, and counseling/coachingExperience in program development and the ability to evaluate and assess program outcomes.Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with diverse populations, community organizations, public and private agencies, community college leadership, faculty, staff, students, and the public.Demonstrated computer literacy and familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite and the Internet required.On occasion, supervisory/management responsibilities may be necessary for students, interns, and temporary employees to support special projects and large-scale events.Preferred Qualifications:
