The Research Proposal Development Officer will function as part of a university-wide research proposal development team to assist School of Public Health & Tropical Medicine (SPHTM) faculty in the preparation and submission of federal grant and contract proposals, including proposals for work to be performed entirely by SPHTM faculty and those in collaboration with other investigators. At the direction of the supervisor, the Research Proposal Development Officer will assist with proposals by faculty outside of the SPHTM as needed. Reporting to the Director of the Office of Research Proposal Development in the Office of Research, the Research Proposal Development Officer serves an important and highly visible role in a demanding, fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; highly proficient editing ability.
  • Independence, initiative, and strong organizational skills.
  • Highly proficient research and analytical skills.
  • Ability to recognize administrative challenges, negotiate issues, and implement effective solutions.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously; demonstrated ability to prioritize and efficiently manage a variety of activities with competing deadlines.
  • Ability to work cooperatively/effectively with others of diverse personalities, education and cultural backgrounds.
  • Excellent computer skills; high level of fluency in word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet software
  • Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint expertise.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills needed to present and communicate effectively with all levels of management; a high degree of professionalism.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all work performed.
Required Education and/or Experience
  • Master's Degree and three years of science grant writing experience or related experience in a science communication field, including extensive writing and administrative expertise.
OR
  • Bachelor's Degree and six years of science grant writing experience or related experience in a science communication field, including extensive writing and administrative expertise.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the academic environment preferred.
