Position SummaryThe Data and Digital Publishing Manager at UNM Press takes overall responsibility for all aspects of press metadata; internal and external-facing digital cataloguing, including Edelweiss; partnering with sales department to manage and optimize relationships with e-book aggregators such as Ebsco, Proquest, Muse, and etc. In addition, the Data Manager will have overall responsibility for managing and optimizing Pressworks, the title management system built on the Filemaker database platform and will co-lead development of website features and SEO. The Data and Digital Publishing Manager will help lead and manage Press initiatives in Open Access, Open Educational Resources, and in investigating AI initiatives in the publishing workflow. Reporting to the Press Director, this is an exciting opportunity to help shape the scope and direction of this new role at UNM Press.Founded in 1929, UNM Press is one of the oldest and largest university presses in the West. The Press publishes original and groundbreaking scholarship in the fields of anthropology and archaeology, Native studies, Chicana/o studies, literary criticism, Latin American studies, and US Western History. We publish trade books and series related to New Mexico and the Southwest, including fiction, poetry, cookbooks, guidebooks, history and biography, especially works from underrepresented voices of the region. And we publish books and authors with Western roots and national and international resonance through our trade imprint High Road Books.Duties and Responsibilities: * Responsible for generating and optimizing title metadata; for managing the metadata flow to all stakeholders, including Press distributor, via Coresource+ and other channels.
  • Responsible for monitoring title metadata in the marketplace and optimizing metadata through a process of constant assessment and revision to maximize title impact in the market.
  • Responsible for managing the Press title management system; for working with TMS developer to ensure efficiency of structure, content, and process. Responsible for collaborating with team leaders to create new TMS features and functions and streamline existing ones.
  • Responsible for working with website developer to optimize features, functions, design, and data flow to the Press website.
  • Responsible for collaborating with the marketing department on optimizing social media and online advertising.
  • Responsible for collaborating with the sales department on building and optimizing sales and inventory reporting.
  • Responsible for collaborating with College center for Digital Initiatives in Scholarly Communication (DISC) regarding Press backlist digitization and open access initiatives.
  • Responsible for collaborating on university-wide initiatives in Open Educational Resources (OER).
  • Responsible for collaborating across departments to spearhead Press initiative with AI in publishing workflows.
  • Manage ebook conversion and metadata flow, kindle direct publishing partnership, and miscellaneous as assigned.

Minimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED; at least 6 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated interest in and experience with the book publishing environment
  • 2-plus years managing data in a publishing environment. Familiarity with HTML and Wordpress
  • Familiarity with title metadata platforms including Coresource, Netread, Amazon KDP, and familiarity with ONIX metadata standards
  • Familiarity with title cataloguing platform Edelweiss
  • Familiarity with Filemaker or other database management systems
  • 2-plus years managing website content and SEO
  • Familiarity with and interest in large language model AI in a publishing environment
  • 2-plus years experience with sales and inventory data
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
