Job Description:Laboratory Assistant I Full Time Evenings Summary of Responsibilities:M-F 2p-10:30p with weekend rotationLaboratory Assistant I are responsible for all phases of laboratory specimen handling, collection and processing as well as supplementary computer skills.Laboratory Assistant I are responsible for helping to establish and maintain a rapport with patients and to provide a clear explanation of the process for performing venipunctures to help alleviate stress and anxiety associated with blood collection.Laboratory Assistant I must be able to interact with patients of all ages and health.Performs reception in laboratory front office.Performs venipunctures and capillary collections for patients from newborn to geriatric.Orders, cancels, collects (draws), receives, processes, and distributes specimens appropriately and in a timely manner for analysis.Properly stores specimens for further testing, as needed.Assists with the training of new employees and students.Maintains equipment and supply inventory.Adheres to laboratory and hospital policies (i.e. attendance, continuing education, dress code, infection control, and patient confidentiality) and procedures.Follows best practice for patient safety and infection control in accordance with regulatory guidelines to include but not limited to CAP,CLIA and the Joint Commission.THE LABORATORY ASSISTANT I FULL TIME EVENINGS CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Minimum Education: A high school diploma or equivalent required.Minimum Experience: 1 to 2 years of job-related experience preferred.Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses: Phlebotomy certification preferred. Venipuncture experience required. BLS certification required.Responsibilities:Performs specimen receipt and distribution of laboratory specimens, labels tubes and specimen containers, collects specimens and performs simple tests under supervision. Performs phlebotomist duties as assigned.Qualifications: Education:Required: High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred: Completion of a phlebotomy program Experience:Required: Ability to complete blood draws independently within six-weeks of hire
