- Through the use of backpack blowers and various scraping devices remove all debris and other contaminates which could potentially cause vehicle damage;
- Inspect railcars for damage/fatigue;
- Inspect and assist in opening and closing railcar doors;
- Identify repairs that can be performed by Road & Rail Services;
- Determine if railcar or vehicle securement devices need lubrication'if lubrication is required, assist in the lubrication of hinge decks, end doors, and ratchet, chain or steel chock vehicle securement devices;
- Maintain accountability and maintenance for all assigned equipment;
- Perform housekeeping duties as required by site management;
- Must be able to work mandatory overtime hours when operating requirements or other business needs of Road & Rail Services cannot be fulfilled during regular business hours.
- Inspect vehicle securement devices to determine their fitness for use then store properly in railcar;
- Assist in repairing defective vehicle securement devices;
- Assist in raising and lowering hinged railcar decks;
- Inspect, repair, install and remove bridge plates.
- Must maintain a valid state driver's license if required to operate company equipment;
- Meet and maintain all requirements contained in the Conditions of Employment policy.
- Ability to constantly work in an outdoor environment, exposed to all weather elements, including extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust and noisy conditions;
- Ability to frequently open railcar doors using pulling back force of 90 lbs and pushing force of 68 lbs;
- Must meet OSHA respirator use requirements;
- Ability to frequently tolerate fuel and exhaust vapors up to OSHA prescribed levels;
- Ability to frequently operate gasoline powered air blower using a constant lateral sweeping motion with your arms;
- Ability to frequently climb, using various types of ladders, to heights in excess of 16 feet;
- Ability to constantly use bending, squatting, twisting, and walking motions throughout the entire work shift;
- Ability to occasionally work in areas with limited lighting;
- Ability to constantly stand for periods of time greater than 2 hours;
- Ability to constantly work in area with less that 60 inches of vertical clearance (Tri-Level only);
- Must be able to hear work or safety instructions verbally communicated in a normal speaking voice;
- Must possess normal depth perception and have a normal peripheral vision in both eyes;
- Must be able to work independently;
- Must be able to properly wear all required Personal Protective Equipment;
- Possess the equilibrium and ability to frequently cross 3-4 foot open spans at heights up to 16 feet;
- Ability to occasionally lift above shoulder height a weight of up to 50 pounds;
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 35 lbs on your back climbing railcar ladders and crossing between railcars.
