UTIA WordPress DeveloperLimited Duration AssignmentPosition PostingThis position's purpose is both back-end and front-end WordPress development, including creating WordPress themes and plugins for the web presence of the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture (UTIA), its business units, and departments. This position works under the direction of ITS's Senior Developer and with other ITS staff to design and implement a high performing, responsive and accessible web presence for ITS clients.Responsibilities:I. Planning
  • Gathers requirements from UTIA's Web Oversight Committee (WOC) about needed features.
  • Meets with ITS's Senior Web Applications Developer and Project Manager to discuss features and plan development of new and updated features and functionality for UTIA's WordPress environment.
  • Meets with CIO and ITS web team members to keep them informed about development progress and needed maintenance updates.
II. Development and Maintenance
  • Develops WordPress themes, plugins, custom blocks, features and functionality under the direction of ITS's Senior Developer.
  • Designs and features will meet current user experience/user interface industry standards ensuring a responsive and accessible design.
  • Maintains UTIA's current WordPress environment.
III. Testing and Implementation
  • Test new features for desired functionality and accessibility standards.
  • Uploads new features to the staging environment and leads user acceptance testing.
  • After successful user acceptance testing, uploads new features into the production environment.
QualificationsQualifications:
  • Strong understanding of front-end technologies, including HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, jQuery
  • Strong understanding of PHP back-end development
  • Demonstrated ability to build WordPress theme and plugin utilizing front-end technologies, including HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, jQuery and back-end PHP
  • Knowledge of how to interact with RESTful APIs and formats (JSON, XML)
  • Good understanding of accessibility standards and implementation of those standards
Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma with four or more years working as a WordPress Developer experience is required.
Or
  • Associate’s degree in an applicable field with two or more years working as a WordPress Developer experience is preferred.
Or
  • Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field with one or more years working as a WordPress Developer experience is preferred.
