Information about the positionIn this role, you will join the Listing subdomain team, as part of the Buyer domain. In the Listing subdomain we essentially work on creating a simple, efficient, and top-performing item upload solution. Plus, we share item data with other subdomains to meet our buyers' needs across the platform.As you join the Listing subdomain, you will become an integral member of one of our domain's cross-functional full-stack teams. This team is composed of a few backend engineers, iOS, Android, Web, QA engineers, Decision and Data Scientists, a Designer, an Engineering Manager and a Product Manager. You will report to the subdomain Engineering Manager as a people manager.As a backend software engineer, you will be implementing business logic and writing APIs that our mobile and web platforms can use. You will work with product and business-related features, as well as solving different technical challenges would be an inseparable part of your daily job.   • Work in a team and shape the features to make our members' life better
  • Apply Agile and Lean principles in your work
  • Collaborate with other developers through GitHub pull requests and code reviews
  • Effectively partner across teams to prioritize and deliver results
  • Transform large monoliths into smaller, component-based services
  • Write unit tests (RSpec) for all of the code you write. We have >10000 tests which run in ~5 minutes through our Jenkins setup
  • See your code affect 80+ million users almost instantly. Our master branch gets rolled out straight to production on each merge. We deploy many times per day
  • Work with Ruby on Rails, MySQL, Vitess, Memcached, Elasticsearch and many other technologies. We don't expect you to be familiar with all of them beforehand
  • Craft the code which can handle more than 2M requests per minute
  • Monitor your deployed code through Kibana, Grafana, DataDog and new tools that you will introduce:)
  • Own SLIs/SLOs in the product team
About you
  • Deep knowledge and proficiency in solution software design and in applying software engineering principles
  • Hands-on working experience in development or operations at scale
  • Ruby on Rails experience is desirable but not required
  • Willingness to learn and master new technologies and concepts
  • A good communicator who can talk clearly about complicated topics both with business people and engineers
  • Strong inclination to collaborate with team members, share knowledge and foster a positive, cooperative environment
  • You are capable of working in the team as well as independently
  • You are taking the lead in addressing issues and driving improvements, even without explicit direction
  • We expect you to be familiar with most, and have deep knowledge and experience in some of the following disciplines: Software Engineering, Functional Programming, Data Structures, Algorithms, Machine Learning, Web Development, Systems Programming, Distributed Systems, Systems Architecture, Computer Science
