Nature of WorkThe Division of Personnel is comprised of six sections through which services and information are provided to state agencies and employees, and to the general public. The Classification and Compensation section is responsible for ensuring all covered positions within state government are properly classified and appropriately compensated. This section also works with state agencies and local health departments to assist in creative solutions for recruitment and retention issues.These positions participate in formal and informal training to develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform personnel work in the Classification and Compensation section of the Division of Personnel. Through the application of established job analysis methodologies, merit system regulations, policies and procedures learn to: accurately analyze and evaluate positions; process personnel transactions in a timely manner; research position history and organizational structure to determine appropriate classification; conduct job audits; consult with state agencies as required in the classification process; draft class specifications; develop and conduct salary surveys. Participate in classification studies. Assist in the development of new and innovative pay initiatives. Apply mathematical and statistical concepts in the formal analysis of salary surveys and other personnel data. Assist in drafting personnel policies. Require the ability to interact effectively with state employees, supervisors, managers, and the general public. Work requires advanced writing and analytical skills for use in drafting correspondence on sensitive issues, class specifications, and project reports. Occasional travel may be required. Must be proficient in the use of office software to include Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Google Workspace.
