Job DescriptionDrilling and Workover SuperintendentLocation: Oman Duration: Initially a 3-4-month contract, with potential extension up to 2 years.Start Date: MayResidential positionOverview:Our client seeks an energetic and seasoned Superintendent for Drilling Operations, capable of driving forward the dynamic pace of an exciting project in Oman. The role demands a strategic thinker with extensive experience in both onshore and offshore drilling projects, adept at leading and coordinating multidisciplinary teams to achieve project objectives efficiently and safely.Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and manage all aspects of drilling operations, from planning to execution, ensuring compliance with safety standards, regulations, and project timelines.
  • Develop comprehensive drilling programs, encompassing exploration and development wells, while integrating technical and commercial considerations to optimize outcomes.
  • Utilize expertise in geomechanics and data analysis to design casing programs and mud weights, ensuring well integrity and stability.
  • Lead trajectory design, casing analysis, and other technical assessments using tools such as StressCheck, WellCat, and WellPlan.
  • Review and validate engineering designs from third-party vendors, ensuring alignment with project requirements and standards.
  • Facilitate completions and workover operations, including risk assessment, mitigation planning, and resource allocation.
  • Collaborate effectively with PSLs and service providers to gather necessary data and insights for well design and execution.
  • Manage tendering processes, develop specifications, and evaluate proposals to optimize cost efficiency and quality.
  • Communicate proactively with stakeholders, internally and externally, to provide updates, address concerns, and ensure alignment with project objectives.
  • Prepare comprehensive documentation, including Statements of Requirements, Basis of Design, and Drilling Programs, adhering to industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering or relevant field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Over 15 years of progressive experience in drilling engineering, with a focus on onshore and offshore projects.
  • Extensive background in planning exploration and development wells, with a minimum of 10 years' experience in offshore and deepwater/subsea drilling.
  • Proficient in geomechanics, formation evaluation, and wellbore stability analysis.
  • Certification in Well Control (IADC/IWCF) at the supervisor level.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess risks, identify opportunities, and develop effective mitigation strategies.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to collaborate across diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Proven track record in project management, with a focus on delivering results within budget and schedule constraints.
