Join our IT department as a Senior Infrastructure Database Engineer and help us build a better future!As a Senior Infrastructure Database Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and performance tuning of our database systems that reside both in Azure and on-premise. You will work closely with our development, operations, and infrastructure teams to ensure the reliability, scalability, and security of our databases.Responsibilities:
  • Perform day-to-day management and administration of SQL Server databases, including installation, configuration, maintenance, monitoring, backup, and recovery.
  • Monitor and optimize database performance, identifying and resolving bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and performance issues.
  • Implement best practices for query optimization, indexing, and resource utilization.
  • Implement and maintain database security measures and compliance standards.
  • Implement and test backup/recovery strategies to ensure that data can be restored in the event of data loss or corruption.
  • Troubleshoot database issues and provide timely resolution.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support development, testing, and production environments.
  • Solid understanding of database architecture, administration, and performance tuning
  • Serve as the Microsoft SQL Server Subject Matter Expert (SME) and directly participate in the design, engineering, implementation, and modifications to the production database environments.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and training to less experienced DBAs.
  • Implement and manage the operational aspects of cloud-native and hybrid data platform solutions built on SQL Server and Azure SQL services.
  • Analyze our Azure SQL environments, suggesting and implementing solutions and remediations to support developers in the Software Development Lifecycle.
  • Experience with popular database programming and querying languages (including but not limited to SQL, CosmosDB, and Azure Synapse) for relational databases.
  • Strong experience with infrastructure as code principles (repeatable, scalable, resilient) is highly desired.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Business, or related field, or equivalent work experience is required.
  • At least five (5) years or more of work experience in data management disciplines including data integration, modeling, optimization, and data quality, and/or other areas directly relevant to DBA responsibilities and tasks.
  • Previous experience in the retail space is preferred but not required. Solid understanding of database architecture, administration, and performance tuning.
  • Exposure to building with Infrastructure as code, Python and shell scripting is strongly desired.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing, maintaining, testing, and validating Microsoft SQL Server High Availability (HA) technologies and concepts, such as Basic and Always-on Availability Groups (BAG/AAGs).
  • Experience automating the execution and notification of database-related processes and alerts. Excellent interpersonal, listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Detail oriented and highly organized with the ability to manage multiple complex tasks simultaneously. Ability to effectively review and identify circumstances and evidence of a problem and apply sound troubleshooting practices to diagnose the root cause of the problem. Good at both planning and tactical execution.
  • Certifications such as Microsoft Certified - Azure Database Administrator or Microsoft Certified - Data Management and Analytics (SQL Server) are preferred.
This role does not allow for 100% remote work. Qualified candidates will need to live within a daily commutable distance of Casey's Store Support Center in Ankeny, IA and be willing to work in a hybrid work environment consisting of 3 days per week onsite.Agencies please note: This role, open for recruitment, is being managed directly by Casey's Talent Acquisition team.
