Dental Surgical Assistant I

- Operate X-ray and 3D scanning equipment and develop radiographs for diagnostic purposes.
- Prepare and sterilize surgical instruments, materials, and equipment in accordance with infection control and biohazard protocols.
- Assist the surgeon with all chairside procedures including operatory setup, anesthesia administration, and cleanup.
- Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vital signs during procedures.
- Provide patients with information on oral health care, treatment plans, and postoperative outcomes.
- Monitor stock of surgical supplies and medication and replenish these, as needed. Notify Surgical coordinator when supplies need to be reordered.
- Ensure that instruments and equipment are effectively maintained.
- Provide excellent patient care at all times.
- Review Medical history and surgical treatment plans
- Greet and escort patient to treatment area
- Send in prescriptions under advisement of physician
- Prepare Surgical Trays
- Anesthesia preparation and patient care a. Obtaining vital signs b. Placing leads for monitoring c. Reconcile anesthesia medications recorded
- Review pre and post op instructions
- Restock supplies
- Lifts a minimum of 5lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 10lbs. and stands a minimum of 5 hours a day.
- Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
- Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
- High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
- Sound knowledge of how to use surgical equipment, instruments, and materials.
- A good understanding of surgical techniques, chairside responsibilities, and health and safety protocols.
- An excellent understanding of dental records, charts, and documentation.
- Great organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to provide excellent patient care, even under stressful circumstances.
- Consistent professionalism in appearance and attitude.
- Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
- Minimum of 1 or more years of experience in dental assisting
- Completion of a dental assisting program
- BLS/CPR Certification from the AHA
- Certified Dental Assistant.
- Dental Radiology License.
- DAANCE Certification.
