Become a maker of possible with us.Position Summary:The Controls Designer will be responsible for creating and implementing automation solutions to deliver, maintain and improve Operational Performance Capability in our manufacturing facility. Through constant innovation will research and integrate the best technologies worldwide focusing on OT improvements, working closely with MTI, CI and Central Engineers for reliable and sustainable manufacturing automation solutions. Will support the Controls Coordinator with Smart Factory strategic technology pilots and expansion plans. Ensures compliance with BD quality systems, policies, procedures and best practices, and all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies and procedures. Regular, punctual attendance is an essential job function. Ability to read and write and converse in English. Willing and able to uphold BD Values.Duties/Responsibilities:Assist the Controls Coordinator in developing and driving advanced technical training standards at the site resulting in increased technical bench strength.Through constant innovation will research, develop, design, test, and implement automation solutions to keep Manufacturing reliable and sustainable.Act as technical leader to the plant and engineering group to support and deliver technological advancements in automation solutions to resolve manufacturing issues. Providing the guidance, training and mentoring needed to maintain or improve operational performance.Lead and manages multiple projects.Actively collaborates as a team member in a high-performance cross functional work team environment, including plant operations, engineering, IT, Quality and regulatory.Act as a leader to establish, support and drive Controls standards adoption and implementation across the manufacturing enterprise.Understand Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), SCADA systems, Windows based PC applications, industrial networks, connectivity, and how to effectively apply these technologies to manufacturing environment keeping it safe and secure.Provide first class technical support to the manufacturing enterprise, supporting plant operations and personnel to ensure a safety-first environment that delivers value to our enterprise and the highest quality products to our customers.Understand and has experience in manufacturing processes in industrial plants (preferably Medical Devices), electrical control systems, equipment and machinery including validations (IQ/OQ/PQ) requirementsDevelop, plan, and execute technical solutions including equipment bills of materials, scope of work, estimates, participate in proposal review and provide timely status updatesProvide leadership in knowledge transfer, training and implementation of approved standards and practices for Controls systems, including network implementation, PLC’s, HMIs, SCADA systems, field devices.Lead process improvement projects delivering sustainable solutions in collaboration with plant technical associates.Assist engineering team in developing and maintaining User Requirements Specification (URS) documentation specifying Controls requirements for new equipment purchases.Other duties as required to support the needs of the business.Education:Associate’s degree in relevant field required.Experience:Five years’ experience in control systems development and integration, managing advanced manufacturing process control application projects required.Experience with technical team development required.Experience working with third party vendors and system integrators, specifying hardware and software for controls and automation projects, FAT, SAT and project management required.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Thorough Knowledge of control systems, PLCs, vision systems, motion controls, operator interface panels, power distribution, electrical control components, safety systems and hardware/software implementation and validationsDesigning and drawing complex electrical/controls schematics - ProficientDemonstrated leadership abilities, managing effective team relationships – ProficientOrganizational, written and verbal communication – ProficientAbility to meet deadlines - ProficientCommunication and presentation skills required - ProficientDetail Oriented – ProficientManage capital expenditures per designated projects – BasicKnowledge of OSHA safety and environmental requirements - BasicPCP Level: N/AFor certain roles at BD, employment is contingent upon the Company’s receipt of sufficient proof that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
