POSITION SUMMARYCarmen Schools seeks a student-focused leader who understands and commits to implementing the Carmen Education Model to ensure all students graduate prepared for success in college, meaningful careers, community involvement, and family life. The Dean of Curriculum and Instruction (DoCI) will work with the Principal and/or Assistant Principal to implement and monitor written curricula and instructional strategies that accelerate students' academic achievement and character formation. The DoCI is primarily responsible for coaching teachers and ongoing professional development. The DoCI works closely with the Carmen network-wide curriculum team and teachers who work in a variety of subject areas. Like all Carmen Leaders, the DoCI models Carmen's habits of heart and mind.QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in education or related field; master's degree preferred
  • Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction teacher and administrator licenses or eligibility
  • Minimum of 3 years teaching experience with a documented track record of significantly raising student achievement in the classroom.
  • Minimum of 1-year direct experience in teacher hiring, coaching, and evaluation
  • Proficient in use of technology to support student academic achievement
  • Strong knowledge of primary curriculum and instructional standards in assigned content areas
  • Spanish proficiency preferred
  • Experience in elementary literacy and elementary math preferred (teaching, coaching, leading professional development and developing coaching/improvement plans that focuses on data)
  • Ability to lead and function in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment with a mature and joyous approach to challenges
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESMission & Vision
  • In collaboration with the School Leadership team, executes all school duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Carmen vision, mission, and strategic plan
  • In collaboration with the School Leadership team, creates a positive culture of accountability for Carmen students, faculty, staff, and community members by focusing intensely on teacher coaching, feedback, and collaboration
  • Designs, implements, and monitors curricula and instructional strategies and ensures that faculty and staff are adequately trained to implement these practices
  • Communicates with Carmen stakeholders and community members regarding academic practices
  • Builds deep and trusting relationships with faculty, staff, students, and families
Roles and Responsibilities
  • Instructional Coaching
  • Supports, implements, and monitors practices that evaluate student progress and teacher performance. Works with the School Leadership team to ensure all teachers are meeting clear outcome indicators of great teaching at Carmen.
  • Designs, implements, leverages, and modifies (as needed) Carmen PD resources to lead high-quality professional development and monitors weekly actions steps to ensures teachers understand best practices in teaching and learning to meet the needs of all Carmen students.
  • Supports and leads professional development sessions at network professional development days
  • Trains and evaluates teaching staff through a consistent coaching and development cycle, that holds teachers accountable to high expectations, clear student growth targets, and assessments by leaning into critical conversations as necessary and also celebrating great teaching in the name of creating and maintaining strong adult culture.
  • Supports a college readiness academic culture aligned with Carmen's mission and vision
  • Ensures instructional practices can be modified and differentiated to meet the needs of the individual learner
  • Data Analysis
  • o Drives student growth and achievement by maintaining an urgent focus on using data to improve instruction in collaboration with the principal and/or AP
  • o Implements effective assessment tools to track, analyze, and improve student growth and achievement
  • o Analyzes student data to identify trends and create action plans to best support student academic growth and teacher instruction to accelerate student learning
  • o Analyzes standardized testing results to inform instructional coaching and supports
  • Leadership Practices
  • o Attend to duties as assigned
  • May include but, is not limited to, assisting other members of school leadership/staff with additional areas of need
  • Believes in high expectations for all students, staff members, and teachers
  • Demonstrates proven ability to focus time and energy on highest leverage priorities to best support a positive climate and culture aligned with Carmen's mission and vision
  • Demonstrates proven ability to work well with a cross-functional team

  • Is willing to engage in difficult conversations and to hold adults and students accountable to cultural norms and expectations
