You will perform administrative and clerical duties to ensure efficient operational flow in their assigned department.   • Conducts an in-person greeting, welcome and orientation to the unit for newly admitted and transferred patients.
  • Responds to patient call lights in a manner that expedites appropriate follow through.
  • Makes rounds on patients throughout their hospital stay.
  • Communicates and facilitates communication with patients, families, other departments and health care team members regarding patient care.
  • Assists with processing patient admissions, transfers and discharges.
  • Provides concierge service to assist patients and families with way finding and directs them to available resources.
  • Assembles and maintains patient medical records and other documents related to patient care.
  • Assists with unit clerical functions.
  • Assists in trouble-shooting equipment failures such as call system, portable phones, WOWs and other unit devices.
  • Reports abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to RN. These include but are not limited to vital signs, weights, assisting patients with personal care and activities of daily living, patient transfers/transport, pulse oximetry, point of care testing, application of external monitoring devices, and further technical skills of phlebotomy, clean dressing changes, and 12-lead ECG’s.
  • Assists with keeping patient rooms clean & orderly.
  • Demonstrates a positive, concerned and sensitive response in the workplace.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English and to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to perform basic clinical mathematics.
  • Competencies in both the professional, technical and clinical knowledge domains must be demonstrated in a safe, effective and efficient manner.
  • Maintains personal growth and development through the ongoing process of formal and informal education.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education:
  • HS diploma or equivalent GED required.
Certifications:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) required
Complexity of Work:
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Work Experience:
  • Demonstrates proficiency in applied mathematics & reading comprehension at an 8th grade level.
  • Prior job experience with typing or computer training or equivalent coursework.
  • Microsoft Office experience preferred
  • One year of recent, full-time patient care experience and/or customer service-related role. Additional education/training may substitute for some/all of the stated experience (i.e. mental health experience).
  • Nursing students who have recently completed a minimum of one clinical rotation as part of an accredited nursing school program may substitute the clinical rotation for the required experience.
  • Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered.
Physical Requirements:
  • Work requires finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination to operate a computer keyboard at a moderate skill level.
  • Requires frequent data entry, standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
  • Mental Demands: Ability to work at a fast pace and prioritize multiple assignments/projects and respond to numerous requests; ability to resolve conflicts among staff and to work collaboratively with department directors, physicians and other members of the Healthcare team; ability to ensure operational efficiency; ability to problem-solve and make decisions; ability to exercise self-control and tolerate stress when dealing with multiple requests and/or conflicting demands from multiple customers.
  • Special Demands: Needs minimal sustained direction in assessing needs, directing staff and carrying out departmental and professional responsibilities.
  • Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye/hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force rarely, and/or 0 to 50 pounds of force occasionally to move objects.
  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
  • Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires normal or corrected speech, hearing and vision.
  • Requires some exposure to communicable disease or body fluids.
Personal Protective Equipment:
  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
