We have two well-established Paediatric Fellow positions available starting January 2025. Here is a fantastic opportunity to further your general and community paediatrics training with superb hands-on opportunities in an enthusiastic team.Te Whatu Ora, Te Tai Tokerau is committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and holds stewardship for equitable health outcomes for Māori as Tāngata Whenua as the highest priority.Based at Whangarei Hospital this Fellow role will join a team of 17 consultants, 7 registrars, 8 house officers, trainee interns and 5th year medical students. The position offers an excellent mix of inpatient and outpatient general paediatrics, developmental outpatients, Gateway Clinics, level 2 neonates, visiting clinics to District Hospitals in Northland as well as transport medicine. Fulfilment of rural and developmental general paediatric training requirements, and we can also support 1 of the 2 positions to be a Community trainee with 8 of the 12 months accredited for Community training.We would be happy to discuss how we can tailor the role to meet your training requirements - please feel free to reach out if you would like to discuss further!Rostered duties include one day each week on call and 1:7 weekends as part of the consultant roster, well supported by consultant back-up.Whangārei Hospital serves a growing population of over 190,000 with high levels of deprivation and more than 2000 births per year. The paediatric service is based in a purpose-built Child Health Centre which houses a range of professionals including a developmental team. We have a dedicated children's ward; level II SCBU, ICU and a comprehensive range of diagnostic services. The population is thinly spread over a wide geographic area; in addition to regular outreach clinics, the service is works closely with the ICU/transport team. There is a wide range of outreach subspecialty clinics from Starship Children's Hospital, providing high quality shared care and opportunities for professional development.We offer local teaching, journal club, M&M and peer review and opportunities to view weekly Starship update and grand rounds. There is a wide range of possibilities and support to complete an advanced training project. You would be involved in teaching of junior medical staff, medical students and nursing staff.Ideally you will be in your final year of training as it provides the opportunity to function as a supervised “Junior Consultant”. Applicants who are trainees in their 3rd or 2nd year of advanced training with the RACP are preferred.
