- Documents operational needs which can be supported by the technology and in coordination with the Finance and Information Technology (FIT) division and develops a long-term capital strategy for technology procurement supporting transit operations.
- Develops lifecycle plans for technology systems essential to transit operations, including the Harris Radio System, the Conduent CAD/ AVL System, the Video Surveillance System, and the Train Control System.
- Assists in managing the Conduent CAD/ AVL System, including working with IT and the vendor to correct issues, managing configuration changes, and monitoring system status.
- Works with Transit Special Events, Scheduling and Service Planning groups to develop configuration changes to technology systems, including the CAD/ AVL system and customer information system, supporting temporary or permanent transit service changes.
- Works with Transit Division managers and staff to develop requirements for new technology systems or for new features on existing technology systems.
- Develops and/or modifies operational plans, policies, and procedures to utilize technology systems to assist daily transit operations.
- Represents the Transit Division's business needs and interests to IT staff, vendors, and/or project teams.
- Assists with the adoption and integration of technology systems through transit operations work processes such as developing training manuals and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Supports operational staff and works with IT and the vendor to resolve issues with technology systems, managing configuration changes, and monitoring system status.
- Develops operations management tools and dashboards as needed, using Python or other scripting languages, to simplify work processes and improve the quality of transit datasets.
- Performs analysis of data generated from operations systems such as the Conduent CAD/ AVL System, the Thales Automatic Train Control System, and the Umo IQ Customer Information System and provides recommendations for service or operational changes if necessary.
- Prepares presentations based on data analysis intended for senior leadership, elected officials, the MTA Board, and the public.
- Writes reports and papers to document best practices and analyzes data obtained from operational systems.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university preferably in transportation, mass transit planning or other closely related field; AND two (2) years of transit planning and/or transportation planning experience.
- A strong interest in promoting public transportation and a desire to learn about transit operations and the technologies supporting them.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, purposes, scope, and techniques of various phases of city and/or transportation planning.
- Master's degree in planning, transportation, transportation engineering, public administration, or other closely related field.
- Experience working with public transportation systems or at a public transit agency.
- Experience in analyzing schedules and operational data generated by transit systems.
- Demonstrated strong analytic skills and problem-solving ability.
- Experience with User Interface or User Experience (UI/UX) development, particularly for software which uses public transit data, logistics data, or geodata generated by vehicles.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate with diplomacy and conduct meetings with stakeholders throughout the agency.
- Ability to work independently and simultaneously manage multiple assignments.
- Ability to present facts clearly and concisely in the preparation of complex reports and presentations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
- Familiarity with Tableau data visualization and analysis software.
- Proficient in various scripting languages (Python, SQL, R, etc.).
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, such as Illustrator and Photoshop.
- Knowledge of and experience with the creation of SQL databases and utilizing them for planning purposes.
