- As applicable, travel to identified telehealth locations to facilitate medical appointment.
- Set-up telehealth equipment at identified telehealth sites.
- Collect vital signs and necessary medical information as ordered by the telehealth physician.
- Collect urine specimens for drug screens as ordered by the physician
- Assist with the scheduling process.
- Retrieve messages from the Medline and work with physician, pharmacies, and consumers to triage and resolve the issues.
- Document the provision of services.
- Perform nursing assessments and complete associated documentation. These assessments include obtaining clients’ medical histories, vital signs, a brief mental status exam and information on the effectiveness of psychotropic medication and any side effects.
- Perform DATEP nursing assessments and complete associated documentation on clients where indicated as needed by intake for clients with substance abuse history.
- Perform nursing re-checks or follow-ups. The Nurse will have follow-up appointments with clients to assure medication effectiveness and to check for medication compliance and side effects. Updating physical medical problems will be included.
- Contact the prescriber if information is gained at the assessment or follow-up that requires the doctor’s intervention, such as changing medications or dosages and referral to a higher level of care in cases of emergency.
- Serve as liaison between doctor and pharmacy by assisting in calling prescriptions and obtaining medication authorizations.
- Dispense medication by the psychiatrist’s order from the stored sample medicines. On occasion, this will include giving injections of psychotropic medication.
- Manage sample medicines to include monitoring for medication expiration date and disposing of sample medication when applicable per medication disposal guidelines.
- Complete medication authorization referral for any medications that require this process, including insurance authorizations and referral to medication assistance programs.
- Participate in integrated care efforts.
- Contact clients with lab results.
- Provide education to clients regarding their mental and medical health (i.e. smoking cessation, nutrition information etc).
- Maintain library of nursing educational materials.
- Other duties as assigned or requested by the supervisor or telehealth physician.
- Licensure by the State of Georgia as a Registered Nurse (RN) or LPN.
- Experience in a psychiatric setting is preferred and a general knowledge of mental health disorders necessary
