- Actively cares, promotes, manages, and advocates safety at Western States. As a team member in the organization, it is critical to ensure all employees, vendors, and clients have a safe work environment while adhering to all applicable safety policies, procedures and standards.
- Ability to complete Job Hazard Analysis (JHA’s) prior to any job-related tasks according to WSECO’s policy and standards.
- Maintains clean/clutter free personal work areas to ensure safe environment for all WSECO employees.
- Adhering to required personal protective equipment (PPE) as identified in safety policy.
- Diagnosis, Maintenance, and Repair
- Identifies operational issues on construction and support equipment according to provided checklists.
- Performs preventive maintenance and lubrication on mobile and Allied Equipment.
- Safely performs machine condition inspections and general fleet maintenance.
- Performs minor machine repair and annual inspections, as needed.
- Engines, Undercarriage, and Powertrain
- Troubleshoot and repair mobile equipment to include engine, undercarriage, and powertrain components.
- Electrical and Hydraulic
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical system and components.
- Troubleshoot and repair of hydraulic components and systems.
- Fleet and Yard Maintenance
- Checks equipment in and out of inventory.
- Schedules major repairs with the service department and monitors progress to maintain optimum rental availability.
- Loads, unloads, and secures rental fleet according to load securement standards.
- Delivers equipment with appropriate trailer size/capacity as needed, according to WSECO’s driving policy.
- Washes, details, and maintains rental fleet while optimizing yard organization.
- Performs other duties as assigned while developing a mindset for technician productivity.
- Participates in continued education and training initiatives as outlined in the Western States Equipment Technician Career Development Plan. (TCDP)
- Utilizes service manuals (Service Information System and parts books) to address technical issues and perform all required tasks within technician level abilities, in accordance to WSECO’s printed procedures.
- Utilizes skill sets to address all inquiries in a prompt and friendly manner in an effort to continuously improve or exceed client expectations.
- Basic computer/typing skills and ability to learn Microsoft products.
- Working knowledge and experience with basic hand tools.
- Ability to obtain job related certifications for any specialty equipment including but not limited to forklifts, rigging, and overhead cranes.
- Knowledge of Service Information Systems and division specific applications.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Consistent attendance with the ability to work overtime and travel, as needed.
- Working within and promoting Western States’ purpose, vision and values.
- Proof of high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
- Associates degree in diesel technology or trade school diploma preferred.
- Two to four years of industry experience required. (i.e. Rental fleet, Mobile, and Allied equipment)
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record required.
- Ability to obtain a DOT Medical Card and CDL, preferred.
- Appropriate technician level tooling required.
- Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write in English).
- Ability to stand for long periods of time along with walking, sitting, repetitive climbing stairs, reaching (including but not limited to above-shoulder reaching), repetitive bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, leaning and twisting.
- Exposure to extreme temperatures and environment.
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. in accordance with Western States’ Lifting Policy to include amount and approach.
- Must be able to meet all safety requirements for applicable safety policies.
