Department PurposeCA&ES is a large and complex unit engaged in teaching, research, outreach, extension and service. CA&ES staff personnel management is dynamic, complex and multifaceted. The college is composed of 15 departments, 7 administrative clusters, and affiliated units located on the Davis campus and at off-site locations. The college has approx. 500 academic senate/federation appointees, 30 MSP and 1500 staff in career, contract, limited term and casual positions. The Distributed Shared Service Center (DiSSC) is a dedicated resource for the College focusing on providing a full range of high quality and cost effective human resources, personnel and payroll services to the College community.Job SummaryCoordinates and assists with consolidated human resources activities and functions for the operating units within the College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences (CA&ES). The incumbent will provide advice and recommendations to DiSSC clients. Serves as a resource to the operating units on multi-dimensional and sensitive human resources issues. Coordinates recruitment/selection activities and provides departments with guidance as it relates to policy and contracts. Researches and analyzes a variety of HR issues, and recommends solutions. QUALIFICATIONSRequired:Minimum Education/Experience
  • Experience editing and/or providing guidance with staff position descriptions, contracts, and job requisitions.
  • Experience reviewing, understanding, and applying policies, procedures and collective bargaining contract articles.
  • Experience with web-based integrated recruitment and personnel systems, spreadsheets, word processing, email, and presentation software applications.
  • Experience interpreting and applying Federal State and University level employment laws, regulations, and policies governing business activities, confidentiality of records and information and use of technology.
  • Experience coordinating staff recruitment and on-boarding/off-boarding practices for employees. Experience maintaining a high degree of discretion, integrity, and sensitivity to confidentiality and privacy.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)
  • Analytical skills to understand human resources activities and a variety of policies and contracts as well as apply them appropriately to meet the needs of the department and DiSSC.
  • Interpersonal skills to interact and communicate effectively and professionally with administration, faculty, staff, and students using tact, diplomacy and good judgment during all interactions in the performance of a wide variety of programs and support functions.
Preferred:Preferred Education/Experience
  • Experience using independent judgment to handle sensitive and/or confidential issues, matters and materials.
  • Experience with employment visa processing.
