Please read more about Skills for Rhode Island’s Future at the end of this job description.COMPANY NAME: Family Service of Rhode IslandJOB TITLE: Direct Care StaffLOCATION: Smithfield, RI + Rumford, RIHOURS: 2nd & 3rd Shift, Full Time & Part TimeKey Responsibilities:
  • To provide guidance and supervision of children/adolescents in a residential setting. To assist each resident to make decisions about daily life, conduct and discipline within the boundaries of Agency policy and the requirements of the contractual agreement with the Department of Children, Youth and Family. To provide an environment that promotes the physical and mental well-being of each child. Responsible for the implementation and maintenance of Trauma Systems Therapy (TST) in the milieu setting.
  • Maximize residents’ success, satisfaction, and ownership in their living & working environment through effective skills-trainings & relationship building.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment within the residential program
  • Facilitate ADL skill-building for residential living & for community integration by supervising & teaching clients daily medication routines, budgeting, self-preservation skills, transportation, etc…
  • Participate on a multi-disciplinary team in the development & implementation of client treatment plans & progress reviews
  • Provide, coordinate, and monitor treatment services for all assigned clients
  • Provide shift coverage, including carrying out the many functions of household maintenance, especially cleaning & meal preparation
  • Assist in resolution of medical, psychiatric, and behavioral crises, conflict resolution, and symptom management
  • Schedule & facilitate treatment plan meetings
Successful candidates will have:
  • Bachelor's in Human Services, or a prior work experience in the mental health field
  • The position requires reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, proof of automobile insurance, registration, inspection and driving record. The reliable transportation must have a minimum of three seats in addition to the driver’s seat.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to cultural, socioeconomic and demographic issues
  • Ability to be trained in and implement de-escalation techniques utilizing Handle with Care when necessary.
  • Ability to obtain & maintain CPR certification & first aid training
