Your subject line should include DOT-HWY-2024-07, HIGHWAY LIGHTING WORKER II (Mapunapuna).The Department of Human Resources Development - State Recruiting Office will refer all inquiries regarding this recruitment to the DOT Personnel Office.Duties SummarySupervises and participates in performing skilled work in the installation, maintenance and repair of overhead and underground electrical transmission lines and appurtenances.Climbs utility poles and works from hydraulic lifts to install and repair overhead transmission lines, cross arms, transformers, regulators and street light fixtures; installs and maintains underground transmission lines; locates and repairs defects in underground lines; splices wires and cables; and digs trenches for underground lines and posts holes for setting poles.Plans, assigns, and participates in the above-mentioned duties; determines priority of work; requisition materials and supplies for crew; ensures proper observance of safety practices; maintains proper care and use of tools, equipment and instruments; instructs employees on operational practices and procedures; prepares time and work reports; and reviews and evaluates the work of subordinates.Minimum Qualification RequirementsTo qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:Electrician's License Requirement: A valid State of Hawaii Journey Worker Electrician's License or Journey Worker Industrial Electrician's license is required at time of application. (Please attach a valid, legible copy to your application) If you do not attach your Journey Worker Electrician's License or Journey Worker Industrial Electrician's License, you will be deemed ineligible.NOTE: Hawaii does not have reciprocity agreements with other jurisdictions.
Information about obtaining a State of Hawaii Electrician License is available with the State Department of Commerce & Consumer Affairs via:Specialized Experience: One (1) year of work experience involving the installation, maintenance and repair of overhead and underground electrical transmission lines and appurtenances. This work experience must have been comparable to the class Highway Lighting Worker I in the State service.Supervisory Aptitude: The demonstration of aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects; by serving as a group or team leader, or in similar work in which opportunities for demonstrating supervisory capabilities exist; by the completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills in work assignments; or by favorable appraisals by a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.Commercial Driver License Requirement: A valid State of Hawaii Commercial Driver's License, Class B with Endorsement N and no restrictions to vehicles with air brakes (Restriction Code L) is required, at the time of application.
