Address: 933 E Pierce St, Council Bluffs, IAWork Schedule: 7:30a - 4:30p or 8:00a - 5:00p, 32 hours a weekTo provide therapy services under the direction and supervision of a licensed therapist.Responsibilities:Essential Job Functions1. Provides physical therapy treatment as outlined in the Plan of Care (POC) created by the Physical Therapist to ensure accurate and consistent replication of the treatment program.
- Carries out treatments according to supervising therapist's plan.
- Demonstrates critical thinking skills, by recognizing treatment program needs and/or contraindications and communicates these with supervising Therapist.
- Obtains approval from the supervisory Therapist to change treatment and progress patients to ensure proper progression of treatment and facilitate appropriate level of care.
- Follows state guidelines regarding frequency of visits and reporting to the supervising Therapist of the patient's condition, responses and reactions to prescribed treatment.
- Provides patient and family education to facilitate patient rehabilitation.
- Utilizes the services of interpreters, child-life specialists, etc to assist with instruction as needed or requested.
- Coordinates treatments with interdisciplinary services as needed.
- All documentation is completed within time frame according to policy.
- Documentation includes all requirements. (Surgeries, Signatures, Allergies, etc.)
- Documentation accurately reflects services provided, patient response and progress, utilizing SOAP format.
- Documentation format and content are consistent with departmental dictation guides.
- Indicates start/stop time of treatment, the number of minutes provided for each service rendered, and appropriately bills patient from this documentation.
- Attends all departmental meetings whenever possible.
- Attends all mandatory in-services.
- Attends a minimum of 1 continuing education course per year.
- Presents a staff in-service within 1 month of attendance of continuing education course.
- Participates in program development and work teams as needed.
- Participates in community education through speaking engagements, covering health fairs or other events as needed.
- Participates and assists with marketing strategies as needed.
- Takes accountability to cover all assigned shifts.
- Accepts responsibility for actions and consequences.
- Listens carefully, checks on understanding before responding and accepts and offers feedback.
- Proactively seeks solutions to challenges within the work environment.
- Adapts, without difficulty, to changes in assignment and environment.
- Provides supervision and guidance appropriate for each student, to ensure appropriate treatment of patients as well as educational outcome of the student.
- Complies with school/department requirements for supervision/feedback.
- Standard as outlined in the Age Specific Criteria.
- Associate's Degree in Therapist Assistant Program.
- For MFH: Successful completion of a Physical Therapy Associate's degree from a Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) accredited program required.
- For MFH : 3 years of experience preferred, Experience in acute care and outpatients settings preferred and Electronic Medical Record entry experience preferred.
- No experience required or preferred for other affiliates
- Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.
- Current Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) license in work state required.
- Requires knowledge of therapy as demonstrated by successful completion of accredited Therapist Assistant Program.
- Requires skills in communication both oral and written, time management and organization, and personnel management.
- Requires the ability to work independently, adapt to a changing environment, and organize and work with a variable patient load.
- Requires the ability to conduct patient teaching and in-service presentations.
- Practices within standards of practice as outlined by professional organization and licensing body.
