Primary responsibilities are to help lead, manage, and grow our water resources practice in Maine while addressing client needs and project-related opportunities in Maine, New England, and across the country. Other responsibilities include assisting with recruiting, training, and mentoring staff. This is an opportunity to support our existing hydrology and hydraulic (H&H) practice, advance our dam safety-related and resiliency work, and to continue to grow GEIâs H&H skills, tools, and experience.The successful candidate will work collaboratively with clients and a multidisciplinary team of GEI leaders and experts primarily in the areas of dam failure, spillway adequacy, probable maximum precipitation (PMP) and probable maximum flood (PMF) analysis, inflow design flood (IDF) studies. Practice areas also include hydrologic hazard analysis (HHA) and consequences analysis in support of dam safety risk management (Semi-quantitative risk analysis and Level 2 risk analysis). Opportunities to partner with GEIâs Coastal Practice on resiliency projects for ocean and Great Lake settings. Work in the H&H discipline also includes the development of site hydrology including unregulated inflow, flood-flow frequency analysis, river-channel and reservoir routing, and open-channel modeling and analysis.This team leader will collaborate with scientific, hydrologic, and engineering staff across all professional and experience levels, support diversity and inclusion, and promote integration with other GEI practice areas.Essential Responsibilities & Duties
- Be part of the Portland Maine H&H team performing project work, engaging new and existing clients, and markets.
- Generate, lead, and partner in H&H proposal efforts.
- Participate in client-based professional organizations and present at industry events.
- Prepare technical reports and provide in-house quality reviews for same.
- Perform dam failure and hazard analysis, spillway adequacy studies, probable maximum precipitation (PMP) and probable maximum flood (PMF) analysis, inflow design flood (IDF) studies, preparation of reports and inundation maps.
- Perform hydrologic hazard analysis (HHA) and consequences analysis in support of dam safety risk management (Semi-quantitative and Level 2 risk analysis).
- Develop site hydrology including unregulated inflow, flood-flow frequency analysis, river-channel and reservoir routing, and open-channel modeling and analysis.
- Manage projects to ensure deliverables are accurate, on time, and on budget.
- Partner with GEI colleagues, other project managers, and practice area leaders.
- 18 or more years of progressive experience in hydrology/civil engineering/water resources engineering with ten plus years in a project/program management role.
- Post-secondary education in a field related to hydrology/civil engineering/water resources engineering hydrology and hydraulics for riverine and coastal settings.
- Experienced in hydraulic analysis and modeling (i.e., HEC-RAS, SRH2D, HEC-HMS, RMC-BestFit and-RMA, LifeSim), mapping, digital elevation model use and modification (i.e., LiDAR), and Geographic Information System (GIS) analysis and mapping.
- Recognized for technical excellence and/or the development of client-focused, creative, and practical solutions.
- Seller-doer with strong regional and national relationships, entrepreneurial spirit, and a track record of generating client contacts and project work.
- Expert knowledge of the latest H&H science, methods, and tools.
- Experience preparing comprehensive written reports summarizing methods and findings.
- Willingness to work outside of typical office hours, to attend occasional evening meetings/events and conferences.
