Our natural setting is enhanced by its modern, attractive, and state-of-the-art classroom buildings and support facilities.Learn more information !PURPOSEThe Coastal and Marine Geospatial Lab (CMGL) in the Harte Research Institute (HRI) of Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi is seeking to add a Geospatial Analyst focused on coastal geoscience to our team. CMGL is a multidisciplinary group studying past changes, mapping current conditions, and modeling future changes in coastal environments. GIS and Remote Sensing Specialists, Geoscientists, Biologists, Data Scientists, and Modelers collaborate to gain a better understanding of how past and ongoing processes, such as sea level rise and hurricanes, have and will change coastal environments. We place the results of our work in the context of improving natural and human resilience and hence work with other groups at HRI studying socio-economics, policy, and ecosystem science.Under general supervision, the Geospatial Analyst performs Geographic Information System (GIS) research, analysis, and modeling work of assignments which may involve planning and directing certain phases of research projects and preparing deliverables for work primarily involving coastal science. They assist with the implementation of key projects and identifies opportunities where geospatial analysis can provide solutions to complex issues.DESCRIPTIONFunctional Area 1: ResearchPercent Effort: 85%Job Duties
  • Provides geospatial analyses and visualizations for coastal and marine research. Trains and assists program staff in data collection, data processing, analyses, reporting, and presentation of results on projects.
  • Develop, improve, and enhance databases key to program area.
  • Develop new and enhance existing web applications as necessary for program area.
  • Adapt, enhance, develop and/or implement cutting-edge techniques that utilize remote sensing, environmental data and modeling to derive products needed in program area.
  • Lead geospatial data management for the Coastal and Marine Geospatial Lab and assist in submitting data products to the GRIIDC data repository.
  • Prepare research reports, maps, databases, presentations, and web products as deliverables.
  • Assist in the preparation of proposals and scientific manuscripts.
Functional Area 2: SupportPercent Effort: 15%Job Duties
  • Attend meetings to give presentations and represent the institute as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in, Spatial Sciences, Computer Science, Engineering, Geology, Statistics, Geography (GIS) or related field.
  • Four years of related experience or equivalent combination of post-graduate education and experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of concepts and processes of geospatial analysis including creating, manipulating, editing, organizing, maintaining, geo-processing, analyzing, and visualization of spatial data.
  • Analytical skills in at least one of the following areas: environmental geospatial modeling/analysis, remote sensing, geospatial statistics.
  • Proficient in MS Office and ArcGIS.
  • Familiarity with concepts of computer programming and application development.
  • Ability to work well on an interdisciplinary research team.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master’s degree in, Spatial Sciences, Computer Science, Engineering, Geology, Statistics, Geography (GIS) or related field.
  • Research experience on coastal or marine problems.
  • Knowledge of coastal environments.
  • Programming experience using MATLAB, Python, or related system.
