- Works as part of a team and works independently in evaluating and applying ITS principles, standards, and criteria.
- Performs specific and moderate portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.
- Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
- Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tasks.
- Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments.
- Identifies discrepancies in results.
- Provides guidance to entry level engineers.
- Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision.
- Independently performs all the tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering works.
- Performance at this level requires developmental experience in a professional position.
- Leads in the development of Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E) packages based upon agency standards and specifications.
- Interacts directly with clients at project meetings.
- Adheres to project schedules, and budgets, and addresses issues in coordination with the PM.
- Prepares technical reports and papers for clients and/or internal distribution.
- PE License or AICP Certification preferred
- 3+ years of relevant experience
- Experience with ITS, Transportation Systems Management & Operations (TSMO), connected and automated vehicle technologies planning
- Experience with systems engineering analysis
- Prior DOT experience within the United States
- Experience with traffic signal design
- Experience with fiber and wireless network, CCTV, DMS design
- Experience with preparing technical reports and papers for clients and/or internal distribution
- Experience with MicroStation or similar software packages
- Experience with PS&E package preparation for ITS/Signal design
- Proficient in Excel, Word, and Google Earth
