OverviewThe Academic Advisor Coordinator plays a pivotal role in aligning advising efforts with institutional goals by coordinating with regional leadership and serving as a liaison between regional campuses and central advising resources. This position provides comprehensive academic advising to a diverse caseload of students, including Exploratory, Integrated Studies, and General Studies students, guiding them through academic exploration, major declaration, and progression towards graduation. Given the vulnerability of these students to stopping out due to potential academic and completion uncertainty, targeted advising and programming efforts are crucial for facilitating timely major declaration and increasing persistence. Consequently, the Academic Advisor Coordinator spearheads program development initiatives tailored to their needs, collaborating with multiple statewide campuses. Additionally, the position involves tracking advising efforts, student outcomes, and program effectiveness through data analysis and reporting, informing strategic decision-making for continuous improvement of services. Collaboration with student services staff and leadership at each campus is essential for seamless service delivery and fostering a culture of collaboration and best practice sharing across regional campuses. Flexibility and willingness to travel between Statewide Campuses are also required to effectively fulfill job responsibilities and engage with stakeholders. This position will be housed at USU Salt Lake.Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with Regional Leadership:
  • Collaborate effectively with regional leadership to align academic advising efforts with institutional goals and priorities. Serve as a liaison between regional campuses and central academic advising resources.
  • Advising Caseload Management:
  • Provide comprehensive academic advising to a diverse caseload of students. Guide these students in exploring academic interests, declaring majors, and developing pathways towards timely graduation.
  • Program Development:
  • Identify and develop programming initiatives tailored to the needs of "Exploratory Students."
  • Implement strategies to enhance student engagement, persistence, and success.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to integrate advising initiatives with broader student support services.
  • Data Reporting and Analysis:
  • Track advising efforts, student outcomes, and program effectiveness across multiple regions.
  • Generate reports to assess impact, identify trends, and inform strategic decision-making.
  • Develop action plans based on data insights to continuously improve advising services and student success outcomes.
  • Cross-Campus Collaboration:
  • Collaborate with student services staff at each campus to ensure seamless delivery of advising services.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, communication, and best practice sharing across regional campuses.
  • Travel Requirements:
  • Demonstrate willingness to travel between Statewide Campuses as needed to fulfill job responsibilities and engage with stakeholders.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree plus two years of relevant experience is required.
  • Strong understanding of the challenges and needs of diverse student populations.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across multiple campuses and with diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in data analysis and reporting.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to work independently, build relationships with external units, speak in front of large audiences, and communicate institutional policies, procedures, and language to the general population.
  • Knowledge and understanding of a specialized area/program/process of advising.
  • Ability to develop content, programs, and services for targeted area of coordination.
  • Ability to lead training and day-to-day efforts of co-workers around mission critical initiatives.
  • Ability to make complex decisions, identify issues within area of coordination, problem solve, resolve, and communicate issues and their resolutions with advisors and administrators.
  • Ability to assess the success of programs/coordination areas and manage budgets.
  • Ability to use professional judgement in ambiguous situations.
  • Verbal and written communication skills and effective public speaking skills including ability to communicate with individuals as well as groups.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment with multiple demands and changing needs with verification of working collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Ability to work with students in 1:1 or group advising settings.
  • Ability to learn and maintain current knowledge of complex program requirements, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to work with diverse student backgrounds.
