This is mahi that will improve the health and well-being of everyone in Aotearoa, and we've got an opportunity for you to be part of it.Ngā mōhiohio e pā ana ki tēnei mahi (About this position)The General Medical Team of Nelson Hospital is pleased to invite applications for a permanent, fulltime Registrar post in General Medicine, working 80 hours per fortnight.The working hours are 8.00am to 4.00pm daily with long days 4.00pm to 10.00pm. Night shifts will be 10.00pm to 8.00am. Weekends (Saturday and Sunday) are 8.00am to 10.00pm.Nelson Hospital is a Royal Australasian college of Physicians (RACP) approved training site (level 2 hospital). 2 years of basic training, and 1 year of advanced training is accreditable to general medicine training.There is also an accredited rotation for an advanced trainee in Oncology and Geriatrics and Cardiology that can be accredited to RACP general medicine advanced training or appropriate subspecialty advanced trainees.Nelson Hospital is also accredited for rural hospital training, and we offer a variety of certified rotations for training.General medical registrars will be expected to work as part of a general medicine team (1 consultant, 1 house office and 1 general medicine registrar). Duties include caring for ward patients who have been admitted, admitting new patients, preforming day stay procedures with appropriate supervision and training e.g. chest drains, lumbar punctures and ascitic procedures etc.There is a strong expectation of teaching in our department. You will be expected to be present for teaching and to provide teaching.Nelson offers the ability to really upskill in all areas of medicine. The only other admitting speciality is cardiology and therefore a very wide breath of medicine is cared for on a daily basis. You will have the opportunity to do procedures such as chest drains, lumbar punctures, ascitic procedures with appropriate supervision and training.The Emergency Department provides the front door for all admissions and is a key relationship. Clinical Services are fully supported by processes from Laboratory, Radiology and Speciality Surgical Services. The on-call acute general medical registrar works in close association with the Emergency Department to manage patients referred either directly to Medicine from community settings or via the Emergency Department team.Ko wai he kaitono tōtika? Our Nelson General Medical Team provides outstanding clinical experience in undifferentiated Acute Adult Medicine with excellent support from the Cardiology Team. Our team of General Physicians are dual specialists with sub-specialty interests including Endocrinology/Diabetes, Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Oncology and Haematology, Renal medicine and Intensive Care, Respiratory medicine, Rheumatology and Neurology. These specialty practices are predominantly outpatient service based with support provided to the General Medical Admitting Team for inpatient sub-specialty advice and care. All registrars are expected to participate in out-patient clinics with their allocated supervising specialist.
