- Promotes the Salvation Army Medicine Hat Volunteer program; reaches out to and makes presentations to businesses, community groups, service clubs, schools, churches to encourage recruitment of volunteers.
- Recruits and orients volunteer, collaborates with various program and department heads to identify, fill and maintain all facility and thrift store volunteer positions.
- Develops and maintains volunteer manual, brochures and promotional material.
- Assists in the development of volunteer related policy and procedures, job descriptions, evaluations, forms and volunteer handbook.
- Maintain and ensure security of confidential paper and electronic records in the volunteer database.
- Ensure there is an effective system for recording of hours and statistics.
- Plans and hosts volunteer appreciation events, including length of service awards.
- In collaboration with the Leadership Team, develop/assist in policy and procedure development. Ensure compliance with policies, procedures and health/ safety as it relates to volunteers.
- Responds to complaints and assists with performance management, discipline and/or resolving conflicts involving volunteers.
- Collaborate with supervisors/managers to ensure volunteer training is sufficient for our needs
- Maintain communications with volunteers through existing methods to communicate important information, needs, training, etc.
- Acquire volunteer feedback - during and at the end of the volunteer term.
- Support for and an understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.
- Provide an original copy of a Background Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the National Canadian Policy Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
- Attention to detail, problem solving, scheduling and analytical skills.
- The performance of the job requires phone use, keyboarding and lifting.
- Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.

- Must comply with all Salvation Army policies, procedures, and associated legislation.
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
- Participate in mandatory orientation training including on-line abuse prevention certification.
- Valid driver's license and current drivers abstract required.
