- Interprets historical records (e.g., spill records, utility drawings, historical facility operations) to design conceptual site models and environmental sampling plans to support site characterization and remedial action determinations in accordance with approved regulatory documents.
- Prepares and/or peer reviews regulatory and technical documents to support CERCLA soil characterization and remediation (e.g., data quality objectives [DQO] scoping documents, technical memoranda, phased construction completion reports).
- Regularly collaborates and attends meetings with DOE clients, regulatory agencies, and other DOE contractors
- Provides project oversite by working closely with field teams (characterization, labor superintendents and foremen, waste operations, etc.) to ensure work is performed in accordance with regulatory documents, regulatory agreements, and project schedule and budget.
- Evaluates analytical data and other quantitative and qualitative information generated by field activities to interpretate nature and extent of contamination and determine follow-on activities.
- Works closely with an interdisciplinary team to request authorized photos of field activities and direct creation of field and project maps
- Mentors junior environmental scientists and technicians through regular interactions and peer review of their work products.
- Spend anywhere from 5 to 25 percent of time in the field on project oversight
- Must have the ability to get a DOE security clearance (i.e., Q-clearance)
- B.S. in Geosciences, Environmental Sciences, Engineering, or other similar field
- 5+ years of experience with environmental characterization and remediation and/or M.S. in related field
- Demonstrated knowledge of CERCLA and other state and federal environment regulations is preferred
- Experience on DOE project and/or the Oak Ridge Reservation is desirable
- Experience with various soil sampling and drilling techniques is desirable
- Strong technical writing and presentation skills
- Ability to operate company vehicles and be insured on corporate insurance (clean driving record)
- Extensive knowledge of scientific/environmental engineering concepts, experience, and demonstrated ability.
