- Lead test engineering activities for our space payload design and manufacturing efforts, to ensure system and subassembly test systems exist to facilitate development, verification, and production.
- Lead the DevSecOps and test-like-you-fly automated test methodology to ensure development and validation testing is flight like and any operations and debugging can similarly be done in flight when appropriate.
- Manage the day-to-day activities of the test team that consists of hardware (electrical and mechanical) engineers, software engineers, and technicians.
- Coach, mentor, and supervise the test engineering team including responsibilities such as timecard and vacation approvals, goal setting/evaluation, and career development.
- Support planning, estimation, scheduling, and resource management of test development and execution.
- Participate in program management and engineering review boards.
- Participate in customer and supplier technical interchange discussions.
- Work with system engineering to ensure all requirements are captured from stakeholders (including but not limited to the customer, our flight hardware and software design teams, our manufacturing teams, and our management) and that all test systems are developed to meet those requirements and delivered on schedule with digital engineering in mind ensuring results trace back to requirements and tasks, status, data, measurements, etc. are easily accessible in our cloud tools.\
- A Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical, Computer Science, Mechanical, Engineering or closely related field paired with experience in electronic and/or software design.
- A minimum of 8 years of related product engineering design and/or test system design experience with complex electrical, mechanical, optical systems.
- Experience leading an engineering team.
- Familiarity with Digital Engineering, DevSecOps, Test Automation, and CI/CD.
- Experience with hardware-in-the-loop test and software-in-the-loop system development.
- Experience with Agile development techniques.
- Working knowledge of statistics (process capability, confidence levels, mean time between failure, etc.)
- Experienced in test development with experience in requirements capture, test system design, build, and checkout, test software development, and validation.
- Understanding of development, qualification, and assembly processes for space hardware
- Ability to work full-time, on-site at our Huntsville, AL or San Diego, CA facility.
- Ability to travel, up to one week a month, and occasionally more, to other facilities.
- Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
- Ability to lead a team of test engineers thru system development including electrical, software, mechanical, and manufacturing engineering.
- Familiarity with business systems used for tracking parts, bills of materials, and part planning.
- Solid understanding of standard product development processes including review and release.
- Ability to understand electronic schematics and software (C, C++, VHDL, Java, python, SQL)
- Ability to design systems in various CAD tools (like Visio DrawIO and Gliffy)
- Ability to work with cross-functional teams, design engineers, analysts, manufacturing, project management and customer representatives.
- Electronics design experience from schematic capture, board layout, fab and assembly.
- Ability to understand mechanical drawings and work in various CAD tools (Solid Works, AutoCAD, etc.)
- Strong computer skills with Office products (Word, Excel, Power Point)
- Must be a US Citizen and able to obtain secret clearance.
- Master’s degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, mechanical, engineering, or other closely related field paired with experience in electronic and/or software design.
- 5+ years of test engineering experience on space vehicle avionics or integrated systems.
- 5+ years in test system development for medium to high volume production.
- Experience with optical calibration, alignment, and acceptance testing.
- Experience leading, planning, or performing environmental qualification or acceptance testing on space vehicles.
- Strong experience with digital engineering techniques (requirements tracking, data capturing, digital tasking/scheduling, CI/CD, and tool connectivity) and tools (such as Cameo, Influx, SQL Server, JIRA, Confluence, git/GitLab).
- Solid digital electronics understanding with embedded system design/test experience.
- Familiarity with RTOS / multi-threaded software development and test (PC, Linux, Greenhills)
- Strong programming skills (Python, Java, Matlab, C, C++, VHDL)
- Digital electronics design experience (familiar with 8-bit thru 32-bit processor development) and CAD work (Altium)
- Experience with flight readiness reviews, acceptance testing programs processes, space flight system development.
- Experience with HALT/HASS.
- Experience with Department of Defense, Military, Government, or Commercial space-related programs.
- Must be a US Citizen and able to obtain top-secret clearance.
