Job Description:Merom Generating Station is a 2-Unit, 1080-MW rated coal-fired power plant. The Principal Systems Engineer will be responsible for implementing solutions aimed at resolving performance deficiencies of Merom Station's control systems. Act as the System Administrator for the plants OT systems, which includes the Distributed Controls System (DCS) its third party contributors and SCADA. Responsible for the implementation and daily coordination of Merom's Controls Systems to ensure safe, cost effective and reliable operations. Assist with the evaluation of each process control system, identify future needs, ensure current technology does not reach obsolescence, recognize areas where plant performance or reliability can be improved and discover new technology which can assist Merom Station in better achieving its operating goals. Provide technical support and expertise for plant and corporate personnel. Ensure control system modifications and future projects comply with manufacturer recommendations, applicable codes (NERC, NFPA, etc.) and consider the impact on legacy or other integrated control systems. Coordinate and implement modifications, revisions, and additions to Merom Station's Generation System.Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for implementation and daily coordination of Merom Stations Controls Systems.
  • Project Management, continuous improvement of installed base, over-see and assist maintenance personnel when needed. Continuously evaluate each of Merom station's Process Control Systems, identify future needs, recognize areas where plant performance or reliability can be improved and discover new technology which can assist Merom Station in better achieve its operating goals.
  • Assist with ensuring the facility has the capability to effectively maintain their Control Systems without jeopardizing system integrity and a process of continuous evaluation, improvement, documentation, and preventative maintenance is established.
  • Examine problems at hand with Merom's Generation Systems' performance, identify causes, anticipate implications, and assist with the formulation of a systematic approach to solving performance problems and implement solutions.
  • Participate as a member of one of the plants 7 Core Teams, responsible for developing, maintaining, and planning work for the stations minor and major outages.
  • Coordinate the implementation of established new projects to assure safety, compliance with manufacturer recommendations, applicable codes (NERC, NFPA, etc.) and consider the impact on legacy or other integrated control systems. Make recommendations and take appropriate actions regarding practices, procedures, or policies that will increase productivity or improve costs, and assure the safety and integrity of Merom Station's control systems.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering preferred.
  • 3 or more years' prior experience in the industry is required with 5 years of control system experience.
  • Experience with Emerson Ovation control systems (preferred)
  • System Networking knowledge and skills are a plus.
  • General software knowledge in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint…etc.) and Accounting/Purchasing Software.

  • Exchanges information with Technical Consultants concerning operating equipment and DCS.
Working Conditions
  • Power plant environment and may require extended hours.
