- Receives specimens of tissue and ensures proper accessioning and labeling of all tissue samples
- Processes paperwork associated with accessioning and reporting
- Performs routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologist(s), per established SOP’s
- Prepares tissue specimens with chemicals, slicing, and mounting on glass slides for microscopic examination and analysis
- Embeds processed tissue in paraffin
- Performs coverslipping of stained slides either manually or automated
- Performs all special stain procedures per established guidelines
- Performs filing of finished blocks and slides
- Helps maintain acceptable productivity, TAT and workflow
- Reports problems concerning individual cases, tests, equipment, and supplies to the department supervisor or lead technologist to ensure timely resolution
- Responds promptly to pathologists, technologists, and administrative requests
- Maintains laboratory in a clean, functional state, as well as cleaning, performing or scheduling equipment and instrument maintenance/calibration/certification, as required. Documents remedial actions such as repairs or repeated tests
- Demonstrates initiative in making suggestions to improve efficiency and productivity and provides consistent feedback
- Attends monthly department and any additional training/educational meetings
- Participates in quality control initiatives. Prepares lab for inspection from regulatory institutions
- Associates degree in field and completed one year internship or completed a long-term training program in histophatology.
- Nationally: HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP)
- 1+ years of equivalent experience as a Histotechnician preferred
