The Executive Director of Special Services is responsible for implementation and compliance of all age 3-21 Special Education programs and services in conformance with district, state and federal laws and regulations.Essential Functions
  • Provides leadership and vision to ensure continuous development and improvement.
  • Collaborates effectively with district staff, families, department members and the community for the purpose of planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating educational services and programs.
  • Sets staffing levels for school special education programs fro the purpose of providing services with fiscal efficiency.
  • Maintains a high level of knowledge of district, state, and federal regulations and laws for special education.
  • Develops proposals for programming for the purpose of meeting the District’s strategic plan and goals.
  • Evaluates district and school Special Education programs and monitors the implementation of special education and compliance with regulations in each location.
  • Develops relationships with community partners to provide transitional services.
  • Manages special education complaints and legal concerns.
  • Recruits, hires, supervises, and evaluates district level Special Education staff.
  • Oversees the Medicaid Administrative Claiming process.
  • Manages fiscal resources from district, state, and federal funding.
  • Communicates information on programs, services, and regulations to school personnel.
  • Maintains a high level of knowledge regarding developing Special Education issues, changes in rules and regulations, case law, and pedagogy of education of students with special needs.
  • Maintains a high level of visibility in classrooms/programs and community events for students with special needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
