Based on leadership decisions and business needs, “all other duties as assigned” will be expected for each position.Members of this team will oversee more than 400 virtual Linux servers and 40 physical Kubernetes servers across 6 data centers in support of 3 unique lines of business. Team members will be called upon to participate in technology war rooms and problem management activates and will interfaces with various levels of IT leadership, application teams and business representatives. In addition, you will assist in and support senior members of the On-Prem IT Operations group.As a team member, you will oversee balanced, secure, and uninterrupted operation of all servers and underlying technologies. In addition, you will support senior members of the On-Prem IT Operations group in overseeing Optum Serve’s server and storage infrastructure. This includes but is not limited to Linux application and security patching, advanced Linux server configuration, environment monitoring, environment maintenance and issue resolution escalations of servers and devices that sustain core business operations.Work is driven by escalations form the OptumServe IT teams, ServiceNow tickets, assigned projects, work backlogs and business requests. Team members participate in the administration of the Server OS layer & underlying technologies, research of new technologies, modernization projects, outlining technology standards, and maintaining operational excellence. This position partners across OptumServe IT in the execution and maintenance of technologies key to OptumServe’s success.Managed technologies include but are not limited to VMWare ESXi, RedHat Linux operating systems, RedHat Linux Satellite, Kubernetes containerization technologies including cluster operations and core services (CNI, CSI, Flux Gitops, Autoscalers, Monitoring, Logging, Ingress), Ansible, Terraform, CI/CD Pipelines, Python, Elasticsearch cluster operations, RabbitMQ cluster operations, S3 storage. Team members in this role also have the opportunity to work with and be mentored in Isilon NAS storage, EMC Unity SAN, EMC PowerMax SAN, EMC PowerStore SAN, NetApp SAN / NAS, Pure Storage SAN, Cisco UCS chassis, Cisco UCS Servers, Dell Servers, HP Servers, Veronis Data Protection, and Thales PKI technologies.You’ll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.Primary Responsibilities:
  • Provide 2nd level escalation across the on-Prem IT Operations team for Linux and Kubernetes technologies
  • Ensure the maintenance and accuracy of Hosting and Storage documentation including hardware/software licensing, environment diagrams, SOPs, and work instructions
  • Assist in the development of new and improve existing processes and procedures as it relates to maintenance, automation, system testing, and functional validation
  • Assist in maintenance and enhancement projects to Linux and Kubernetes infrastructure
  • Assist in the architectural design of existing and new technology implementations
  • Participate in problem management and root cause analysis
  • Deploy and manage servers and underlying technologies
  • Follow all escalation procedures according to service level agreement
  • Assist in deploying and manage Server and Storage physical infrastructure
  • Provide an accurate record of work in request / incident management tracking tools
  • Assist in the coordination and troubleshooting of common system problems; document system events to ensure continuous functioning. Recommend course of action and implements as approved
  • Utilizes Change Control process when scheduling maintenance for Optum Serve’s environments
  • Manage system inventory through centralized management database and tools
  • Perform root cause analysis of managed systems in post system-failure situations
  • Evaluate processes and procedures for opportunities of improvement
  • Perform system configuration and optimization of managed technologies
  • Respond to and resolve issue escalation requests
  • For managed systems within the team’s scope, partner across IT to perform technology assessments, evaluations, and recommendations of products and services to achieve and technologies Optum Serve’ s information security compliance requirements and ensure proper implementation of products to adhere to required security standards
  • Assess risks when making changes to managed systems within the IT environments
  • Participate in 24x7 On-Call rotation
  • All other tasks as assigned

  • 5+ years of experience supporting Linux systems, preferably in a professional environment with focus on Red Hat Enterprise Linux
  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical discipline. Experience may be considered in lieu of degree
  • Experience developing Ansible playbooks and defining scheduled workflows using AWX or Ansible Tower
  • Fluent user of collaborative revision control software (git preferred)
  • Solid scripting
  • Passionate about Linux-based technologies
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and avid collaborator: Thrives on frequent contact with teammates, supervisors, and a diverse population of stakeholders
  • Organizational skills, project, and time management, as well as follow through and attention to detail.
  • Analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Equivalent combination of education, experience and/or applicable military experience will be considered.
  • Ability to participate in on-call
  • Ability to work off-hours as job tasks require
  • Competent with Bash scripting
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience as a Linux System Administrator
  • Experience managing infrastructure as code using Terraform, Pulumi, or a similar technology
  • Experience deploying and administering Kubernetes container orchestration platform in highly available and fault tolerant solution architectures
  • Scripting experience: Bash, Python, PowerShell, Ruby
  • OS and Application Hardening in compliance-heavy environments to include DISA, NIST, VA6500, HIPAA
  • Experience deploying and managing business solutions using Microsoft Azure
  • DevOps Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) workflows
  • VMWare (vRealize, ESXi, Workstation Pro)
  • Enterprise Storage solutions (EMC Isilon, EMC PowerMAX, or similar)
  • Cisco NetScaler
  • Cisco UCS Manager
  • Cisco ACI or other SDN technologies implementing the Kubernetes Networking Model
  • Elasticsearch infrastructure administration
  • Observability using Grafana, Prometheus, and Elasticsearch
  • Dynatrace infrastructure administration
  • Windows Server Administration
